Subject: RE: Best Love Song From: catspaw49 Date: 18 Dec 04 - 12:41 AM On THIS PAST THREAD you'll find quite a list as well as links to quite a few other threads which might be interesting as well. I'll still go with two...........I hadn't considered it before Sandy Paton brought it up, but "When You and I Were Young" ("Maggie") has got to be up there, especially as we age. A truly beautiful old chestnut that tugs hard at the heart. The other is Donovan's "Catch the Wind" which has a beautiful "stridency" about it.....a plaintive and longing quality which is very compelling to me. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Best Love Song From: freightdawg Date: 18 Dec 04 - 08:14 PM Love songs can take many forms. You need to ask "Love from whom and towards whom? For a song about love between a man and his wife the number one song on my list is "A Song For All Lovers" by John Denver. (especially poignant if you know the story behind the song). However, in terms of lyrics, sentiment and even guitar accompaniment there is no song in the world that can match "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg. It is a love song between a man and his aging father. Not commonly thought of as a love song and that is a shame. But then there are a lot of other categories...love for a pet, love for a nation/state, etc. There are a lot of love songs for 'dawgs, you know. Freightdawg |
Subject: RE: Best Love Song From: number 6 Date: 19 Dec 04 - 12:14 AM Here ya go Freightdawg 'I love my Dog' by Yusaf Islam (Cat Stevens) What more can be said ... a love song is just what it is, a song about love. |

Subject: RE: Best Love Song From: Pete Jennings Date: 22 Dec 04 - 11:24 AM I like this one, but then I would, wouldn't I? Written for a girl called Annie Weichler, who hailed from Chicago and whom I met in Devon back in the late seventies. Annie Won't You Stay Would it make you sad Would it make you feel ashamed Honey if I asked you to stay, to stay I know we've just met Only shared a drink or two But tonight I need someone like you, like you Chorus: Annie won't you stay with me Stay with me 'till dawn Annie won't you stay with me Let me keep you warm, keep you warm You must have known yourself What it's like to be alone Needing someone sometimes to hold, to hold More than just a friend A lover and a confidante Who can share the beating of my heart, my heart Chorus So come and take my hand Please believe me when I say This isn't just another one night stand, one night stand Lay down by my side Who could ever say it's wrong When it feels so right in every way, every way Chorus And when the morning comes Maybe there'll be promises Maybe we will find ourselves in love, in love Or in the light of day We could see things differently We could even simply say goodbye, goodbye Chorus Break Repeat 1st Verse Chorus |
