Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: bbc Date: 22 Jun 05 - 12:21 AM Right in the middle on the line between the quiet 500's & 600's. I'd rather give someone an opportunity to come than just swap campsites, though. I think I'll probably leave the ticket at the gate, if no one here wants it. Barbara |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: GUEST,KT Date: 21 Jun 05 - 09:50 PM Say, Barbara, we have our tickets already, but might be interested in swapping into your campsite, if it's still available. Where is it? KT |

Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 21 Jun 05 - 09:14 AM I am really looking forward to this weekend. I am recovering from a very odd cold/sinus infection which has left me without a voice for the past 3 weeks - not a great thing for a radio host! I look forward to saying hi to fellow Mudcatters, but please excuse me if I can only growl a "hello"! Old Songs is my favorite festival and it has become an annual booster shot for me! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Barbara Shaw Date: 21 Jun 05 - 09:04 AM If we're not there, it will be because of sudden medical problems my mother is having. If our site is empty, stop by and sing a song for us. If our site is occupied, stop by and sing a song for us! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Allan C. Date: 21 Jun 05 - 08:22 AM I believe it is a tradition at OS for it to rain on Friday evening in order for the rest of the weekend to be as humid as possible. At least this has been my experience thus far. Carmen and I are nearly packed and are looking forward to seeing so many friends again. Because of time crunches we opted to leave the camper behind. We'll be at the Super 8 during the few non-waking hours of the weekend. Seeya there! |

Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Susan A-R Date: 19 Jun 05 - 11:07 PM Just had a week of practice, staying up until all hours playing music at the first Northeast Heritage Music Camp, a really fine experience, and I'm still floating (and pretty sleep deprived) But I'll be in great shape to do the late night stuff at Old Songs. I also discovered that I wake up around 6 a.m. like clockwork, no matter when I got to bed, so I guess that the quite at night section is the right place to be. Looking forward to seeing you all, and some of my new camp buddies, and Swedish fiddlers and John Whelan and Michael Cooney and. . . and . . . Well, it's a good thing it's less than a week away. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Ferrara Date: 19 Jun 05 - 10:59 PM Jeri, thanks for the imaginary ride! I would enjoy it too. Kendall, I'm hoping it's something like that. There has been a little squeaking since last August, my mechanic said there is a tension adjustment device that should "eventually" be replaced. I hope that's the problem! Last time I had squeaking like that it was the main drive chain (???) or some such thing. Whatever, it would have cost about twice what the old car was worth. This Saturn was the replacement, a 94 SW I bought 4 years ago for $3600. Have really enjoyed it, too, and put some miles on it. The increase in squeaking from trivial to LOUD is quite recent. Bill and I were up to our ears in work for the Washington Folk Festival and I was totally wiped after the Festival, so didn't deal with it right away. I had NO plans to drive any distance right now.... With luck I can find out tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: kendall Date: 19 Jun 05 - 08:16 PM Rita, that screeching could be a power steering belt. Just a matter of taking some slack out of it. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Jeri Date: 19 Jun 05 - 08:07 PM Rita, if I didn't have to work and my car wasn't a mechanical crap shoot, I'd drive down there just for the car trip back to Old Songs and the singing in the car! I hope Charlie can make it though. I once had to give up my ticket because the Air Force decided I really needed to go hang out in Kuwait for a few weeks. Kuwait was so exciting that I actually noticed how long it took doggie doo to dry up and blow away (about 3 days), but I was REALLY mad that I couldn't go to Old Songs. I have a brand new, quality tent (not cheap, but I got it for half of its 'list price') which hopefully will not collapse like the old P.O.S. did. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Ferrara Date: 19 Jun 05 - 07:01 PM Nope. Bill doesn't get to come. If I can't go, I'll post a message here as early as possible in hopes someone will take pity on Dick and Susan and provide them with some (paid!) help so they can hear some music. The hitch, alas, is that I was planning to ride up with Charlie Baum and I'm sorry to say Charlie may not be able to go. Is anyone driving up who might be able to take on a passenger -- actually, TWO passengers -- from the Maryland/DC area? The extra passenger would be Danny Spooner, who's also planning to ride up with Charlie. Am busy exploring other options. Tomorrow I'll have the "awful screechy noise" in my car checked out, who knows, maybe it will make the trip after all. And Danny has been looking into bus schedules. Wouldn't post all this detail here but am hoping someone can help us figure out a fallback position in case Charlie can't leave town next weekend. Rita |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: GUEST,bbc at work Date: 17 Jun 05 - 11:19 AM Oooh, Rita, that was my question, too--does Bill get to come? I'd love to see either or both of you! I'd like to make it to the GetAway this year, but will probably be discouraged by the length of the drive & the fact that I can only manage a shortened weekend w/ a teaching schedule. love, Barbara love, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: jacqui.c Date: 17 Jun 05 - 07:46 AM Hi Rita - hope you can make it. Will you be allowing Bill to come too? We'll be there with the motorhome so come and see us! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Ferrara Date: 17 Jun 05 - 12:03 AM Well if things go very, very well :-) I'll be going this year for the first time. I'm working on it. Will be staying at a motel because I need an air conditioned respite & lots of sleep. (Sigh....) If anybody's awake during the daytime I hope I'll get to see you, if I go I'll be helping Dick & Susan with the Camsco table, and catching some workshops from time to time when I'm not napping in the corner (or napping under the Camsco table, which I actually did once at NOMAD). Rita F |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 16 Jun 05 - 07:57 PM Well, I'm in almost exactly the same spot I've been in for the past 4 years- Quiet at Night, right on the border between the 500s and 400s. I like it! My camping gear is piling up on the basement floor. It's almost time! Allison |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Midchuck Date: 16 Jun 05 - 09:21 AM Refresh - Good, I was hoping they salvaged this thread. Departure in one week and 4-5 hours, if the angel of death doesn't descend and carry me off in the meantime... Peter. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Midchuck Date: 06 Jun 05 - 09:09 AM I've got a camping spot that's diagonally opposite the main stage, in the friggin' 'Quiet' area! I think it's likely because I waited too long to register... Jeri, if you're in the infield, it doesn't matter anymore. Everything inside the fairgrounds is now "quiet at night." All the "music at night" camping spaces are down in part of the field that used to be day trippers' parking. We camped down there for two or three years, but always felt sort of like we weren't really at the festival at all. This year Kendall managed to wangle a space down in the opposite corner of the infield from where you're at, the corner nearest the main stage, and he sent our application in with his and Jacqui's so we get adjoining spaces. I'm not sure the "quiet at night" will bother me that much. I get sleepy a lot earlier than I used to, especially after a day in the sun. But I can always go visiting in the "music at night" area if need be. I'm curious if, now that the whole infield it supposed to be "Quiet at night," the normal big late-night (mostly fiddle music) jam in the stage 3 area will still happen, or they'll try to suppress it... Peter. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Charlie Baum Date: 05 Jun 05 - 11:20 PM i Just got my tickets in the mail a couple of days ago, and it sounds like I'm camping near Jeri. I may be able to carry her back to her tent late at night, post-jamming. I actually like that area for camping, and the longish distance from the jamming area to the tent is more than made up for by the relative closeness of the tent to the bathrooms. Think about it--you'll make one trip each night from jamming back to your tent, and how many middle-of-the-night trips from your tent to the toilet? See y'all there... --Charlie |
Subject: RE: Old Songs 2005 Performers listed From: Jeri Date: 05 Jun 05 - 07:06 PM I received my ticket yesterday. I've got a camping spot that's diagonally opposite the main stage, in the friggin' 'Quiet' area! I think it's likely because I waited too long to register, so I can't really blame anyone but myself, however... I felt fairly beat-all-to-hell last year from camping and walking and walking some more. Add the distance of the site I've been given together with getting even less sleep than I normally do, because 'quiet at night' means 'noisier than hell in the morning', and the possibility that I might be stupid enough to carry instruments around (I doubt it), and I'll be surprised if I can still walk when it's over. A big part of why I go to Old Songs is the jamming. Oh well. At least I'll be there...I think. I'm not 100% sure of that right now. |
