The next session at The White Horse, Hertford is Sunday, 20th February, at 1:30pm(ish).

Last month was a quiet one, and I didn't get round to posting it on the Mudcat. This month looks like being a good deal more lively, so far, but you never can tell.

I'll be there next time for sure, and there are a number of new people who've turned up over the last few months. Looks like it goes forward from here, and the session hasn't yet defined for itself exactly what it's going to be. Lovely!

If you can make it, both Alan and I will be very pleased to see you.

Now's your chance to get the folk session you want!

Hiya John

No, but Alan might be there and he might bring Gary with him. I only e-mailed Alan this morning, as he doesn't know when the Millstream evenings are (though he lives 2 minutes away on Hertingfordbury Road and used to live in Port Vale). I may phone him tonight, see if he's going.

I live in Ashwell, which is quite a drive for the evening. I've also got some end-of-year accounts which I have to get done by next Tuesday, so I'm pretty well stuffed till then.

Sometimes I seem to get so stuck with work and such that I never seem to get anywhere. Should be a bit better from next month, though.

I think you've been there before ... The White Horse is on Castle Street, opposite the castle gates. You can't miss it.

We're usually upstairs in one or the other of a warren of rooms (depends who's already in which room).

Actually, Castle Street's the white road above the main one the arrow seems to point at. it's denoted as "TLE ST." on the map. See it?

Though it started out pretty slow, the session yesterday turned into quite a nice "family" affair, with 10 adults and 4 children - all doing things.

The White Horse often tends to start off with instrumental music and then develop in other directions and this month was no exception. Lots of communal singing, though with the usual guitar and banjo accompaniment.

At the moment, the nature of the session is still very much dependent on who turns up, though it's recovering quite nicely from having been in the doldrums for a while.

It's been going about 20 years now, though, in the same venue so I have a lot of very fond memories. I'm also grateful to Jacqui for having helped out a great deal before she shot off to the USA. There were times when we were very low and sh was one of the faihful few.

Hope to see even more people at the next one, on 20th March. I think (and very much hope) that it's developing into a family-friendly session with children not only welcome but contributing fully.
