Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Teresa Date: 28 Jan 05 - 12:35 AM Well, very interesting. At least when he says something, he'll mean it to be funny, unlike our Shrub. Then, when you've got Molly Ivens to comment, it ought to heat up real good. :) Teresa |

Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: robomatic Date: 28 Jan 05 - 09:28 AM I got the impression he's been living in New York. That alone would make him unelectable in Texas. |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Bill D Date: 28 Jan 05 - 11:12 AM well...no one thought Minnesota would elect a pro wrestler, so who knows? At least it will provide something for commentary. And I can't wait to hear what his campaign song will be! |

Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Stilly River Sage Date: 28 Jan 05 - 12:45 PM He spoke about this campaign on a local NPR station (KERA) program last week. I had the idea that it is rather tongue-in-cheek. I'll have to read up and see if he's actually serious. He made some fine points (and did a great job of defining the current governor as the plastic-mold non-starter that he is). SRS |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 28 Jan 05 - 06:38 PM In fact I have a bumper stickers sent to me by a friend from TX that came out a while back: "HE'S NOT KINKY---HE'S MY GOVERNOR' If you check his website you will find that there is a lot more to him than his music and his mystery writings. And--as he once so famously said---"...I never travel on interstate highways on Friday evenings because they all say that there are no services on this road". Get it? Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Tannywheeler Date: 29 Jan 05 - 02:11 PM Gotta get me a bumpersticker. There's always been more to Kinky than folks realized. Laughter can teach some interesting lessons. He may spend time in NY, but he's home a lot, doing good for people and animals. He also has a line of salsa and jams, I think. He's meshugge enough to bring some real class to the True Texan appelation. Right now he's got my vote. Tw |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jan 05 - 06:11 PM Can't somebody post lyrics to a Kinky Friedman song or something musical about him, so I'm not driven to move this down to the "BS" section? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: Bill D Date: 29 Jan 05 - 06:33 PM I heard Kinky on a "Folk Festival USA" program 25-26 years ago at Kerrville, TX festival....I still have the tape. He's funny, a pretty good musician, and irreverant as all get-out... here's a BIG list of his songs one of which I note here: Dear Abbie (Kinky Friedman) From a friend of yours in Texas Who's had a little trouble finding love. I'm considered quite attractive And I've always been quite active at the club. But the life I lead's so lonesome That I wonder, Abbie, if you've ever known What it's like to live in others' dreams And never have a dream to call your own. There's a divorcee in Dallas, There's a girl who's much too young in Idaho. London Bridge is falling down And the clergyman is out of town And there's a daughter no one wants in Buffalo. And I'm wondering 'bout America, Wondering if we lost more than the war. I'm just wondering if there's any silver lining left Behind the golden door. And dear Abbie, Abbie I just had to write. Dear Abbie, Abbie is there any love in sight ? Well, the last time that I saw you You were living at the old Chelsea Hotel. Even though it's been a while, hell Even now it makes me smile To think of how you tennis-shoed the bill. And it seems like only yesterday You fell off of the sea-saw and you cried And your daddy lit the fireworks In the backyard on the fourth day of July. And dear Abbie, Abbie I just had to write, Dear Abbie, Abbie, where are you tonight ? |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Jan 05 - 06:43 PM Here is Kinky's official site - anmd here is his Song File index, which should have enough lyrics on it, Kinky's and other people's, to give Joe every reason to keep the thread up here. And here's a page with some Kinky quotes. He's pretty good for quotes. For example: "We're all worm bait waiting to happen. It's what you do while you wait that matters." On the whole, I preferred cats to women because cats seldom if ever used the word "relationship". |
Subject: RE: Kinky Friedman runs for Governor of TX From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Jan 05 - 07:00 PM Here's another one: "The professionals gave us the Titanic, amateurs gave us the Ark." |
