Subject: Lyric Request: Rain and Snow From: Jack (who is called jack) Date: 28 Nov 98 - 01:36 PM I have a friend looking for traditional lyrics to a song with lyrics that go Ever since I was a wife I've had trouble all my life Run me out in the cold rain and snow. Its in a minor key and sounds like an old mountain ballad. Anyone know it or versions of it. Thanks in advance. Jack |
Subject: RE: Lyric Request: Rain and Snow From: Bruce O. Date: 28 Nov 98 - 01:48 PM It is an old mountain ballad. I think it was Obray Ramsay that sang it on an LP. |
Subject: RE: Lyric Request: Rain and Snow From: Wally Macnow Date: 29 Nov 98 - 06:52 AM It's a song I've always associated with Obray Ramsey. He did record it in the late 1950s or early 1960s. He sang it from the man's standpoint. I took me a wife, give me trouble all of my life Threw me out in the cold rain and snow. I only remember one other verse but you can get a full set of lyrics from mopsing@aol.com. Just say I suggested you get in touch. Wally Macnow www.camsco.com |
Subject: RE: Lyric Request: Rain and Snow From: Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 29 Nov 98 - 07:27 PM Did the Grateful Dead use this as the basis for one of their offerings - a mere thirty or so years ago? Probably on their first album, if my memory serves me. But if my memory served me, I wouldn't have to ask. And anyway, it's probably a totally different song. Ah well, back to the bottle. Bobby Bob. |
Subject: RE: Lyric Request: Rain and Snow From: Bruce O. Date: 30 Nov 98 - 03:06 PM Practically the same as the verse quoted by Wally M. above is the single verse of "Rain and Snow" in Sharp and Karpeles' 'English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians', #116 (with a tune). |
