So far as I can tell, from searching on-line and quizzing Dick Greenhaus, Cousin Emmy is completely and totally out of print (except maybe her disk with NLCR).

Two summers ago at Elkins I met a gentleman who said his hobby was downloading commercial recordings, and played several bands -all quite good - including Cousin Emmy singing Pretty Little Miss out in the Garden. He said he would share his stuff at cost, and invited us to e-mail him. I tried that, and got no response. Then after a while, I searched the web for any reference to her recordings, and came up only with mentions of her name.

If my acquaintance at Elkins could find and download that recording, I assume savvy persons can do it. If any one can tell me how, I will be forever grateful.

Thanks.

Hi, Toadfrog - as far as I can tell, the only Cousin Emmy album available is the one she recorded with the New Lost City Ramblers on Folkways. That album is available as a custom CD, or by download through music.msn.com/smithsonian. Cousin Emmy, by the way, is also known as Cynthia May Carver.
Good luck!

Thanks much, Joe!

That's what Dick Greenhaus said. I guess what I was hoping for was that the guy I met at Elkins was somehow a Mudcat and could pass on the word where he found it on line. No such luck, I guess.

Tracy Schwarz was there when the presentation was made; he said that the NCLR's version of "Pretty Little Miss" combined Cousin Emmy's words and Roscoe Holcomb's tune. Sort of wish they'd left the tune in.

Thanks again. I don't get around much in these parts any more.

I bought a cassette of the Cousin Emmy/NLCR record from The Music Barn. The catalogue number is RM177.

Not unless Emmy Lou Harris can play a fiddle with the bow between her legs!
