Subject: Finest Young Men From: Susan of DT Date: 29 Nov 98 - 12:18 PM This question is from an old Irish singer at the sing last night. He heard this verse from a drunk who passed out after the first verse and Pat had beentrying to find the rest of the song ever since: My love was one of the finest young men That nature formed or the sun shone on And how to free him I do not know For he got his sentence - for to be hung And as he walked down the streets of Dublin I'm sure he walked them most manfully He was more like the commanding officer Than a boy to die on the gallows tree. |
Subject: RE: Finest Young Men From: Martin Ryan. Date: 29 Nov 98 - 05:08 PM Susan Sounds like a song usually known as "The Streets of Derry". Don't think its in the DT. Did it come up before? I'll check. Regards |
Subject: RE: Finest Young Men From: Susan of DT Date: 29 Nov 98 - 05:21 PM thanx Martin, but neither [streets of dublin] nor [streets of derry] come up with anything. If you have Streets of Derry, please post it. |
Subject: RE: Finest Young Men From: Susan of DT Date: 05 Dec 98 - 11:55 AM Martin- Did you find it? Or can anybody else help Pat? |
