It sounds wonderful. I wish I could be in the chorus - I've had a crush on Janet Russell since I first saw her at Whitby a couple years ago. Can you make a California appearance?

Just so that wires don't get crossed -

The Roses and Thorns Choir are giving performances of 'Hearts of Coal' on -
5th March at Ossett Town Hall, Market Place, Ossett
6th March – Otley Civic Centre

The performance of 'Hearts of Coal' on the 9th April at The National Folk Festival at Sutton Bonnington is with The Rolling Stock Company

Two great choirs in 3 different venues - don't miss it.

Hello Mary,   Its hard to discribe the songs in a way as they vary so much, from trad folk stuff to hymes some modern one written by Sting, but all are extremly poiniant and moving. The story will be told by a mix of readings, solo/duet songs as well as the chous. It really is very strong and I think that almost anyone will enjoy the entertainment and will cirtainly learn a lot about the History and lives of miners and their families. I do hope you can make it to one of the venues.   Joanna

Like Mary Garvey, I live in the U.S., and am unlikely to get to a performance. But everything Barry, Jim, Lester, Georgina et al. do is marvelously worth hearing, well researched, and musically top-notch. I envy all you Brits who have the chance to hear these performances. Applaud a little louder on my behalf when you go. Georgina, is there a CD of this material in the works????? Inquiring consumers want to know! All best, Kathy

if no CD can someone film it so it can be broadcast or would you have the same copyright issues? I encourage everyone to find out copyright status of songs before getting people's hopes up on them...and just bypassing if necessary people who don't want their songs used. mg

Hi Mary

we have made a recording of the songs and Im sure that some video recordings will be made over the weekend. the recording we have isnt studio quality, but as Jim said on the other thread in years to come that CD may be "discovered" .
Ill ask Barry and Jim if there is any possibility of a CD and/or video being done, and point out all the interest people in the US are taking.

Thanks for your comments Joanna

By the way, perhaps I should say that the songs which Isogloss has posted are only the choir's parts of the show, and are surrounded by a lot of other spoken and sung material - the choir's songs are in fact punctuation to the stories which the show tells ...
