Subject: Origins: villez vous danse From: GUEST,AEU Date: 11 Feb 05 - 01:07 PM Hi, In response to an earlier query I put out about the origins of "La Bastringue," someone who goes by the handle "Mitch the Bass" answered that he had a related tune called "Villez Vous Danse" in an 1810 manuscript from Lancashire/Derbyshire. So Mithc, if you're out there and reading this message, c1an you tell me more about this manuscript? Do you actually own the manuscript or is it in a library somewhere? How could I find a copy of that version of the tune? Many thanks, Anne |

Subject: RE: Origins: villez vous danser From: Mitch the Bass Date: 11 Feb 05 - 06:52 PM I had a copy of the manuscript when I was keeper of the Manchester Morris archive. I believe the original is in a library in Rossendale if I remember correctly. I think I still have a copy - I'll have to find it. Send me a pm with your email. Mitch http://www.stradivarious.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Origins: villez vous danser From: Mitch the Bass Date: 11 Feb 05 - 07:02 PM Found it quicker than I thought. Let me know what format you'd like but give me a while I'm off to play at the Lancashire Walloper's ceilidh tomorrow. It's the same(ish) tune as the one others have referenced but in jig time. Subject: RE: Origins: villez vous danser From: Mitch the Bass Date: 12 Feb 05 - 04:54 AM Just remembered. I transcribed the tunes for the Village Music Project. Chris Partington added others from the same collection. You'll find the complete collection in abc at http://www.village-music-project.org.uk/abc/nuttall.abc This includes the secundo and bass parts for Viley Vous Dance which I didn't have. Mitch |
