Subject: Origins: Traditional or Alistair Hewlett? From: gecko Date: 13 Feb 05 - 05:29 PM First two lines are: Oh, Johnny me man, come throw your leg over me, Why do you lie with your face to the wall. As far as I know this is called 'Oh,Johnny me Man' which has confused the issue a bit as there is another, somewhat moralistic song of the same name. My 'Alistair Hewlett' devotee mates have never heard of it but I have been advised that it's one of his. Your help would be appreciated please. Yours in Unity gecko |

Subject: RE: Origins: Traditional or Alastair Hewlett? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 14 Feb 05 - 08:54 AM Alistair is back on Oz for the festival season. We saw him on Saturday night & I bought 2 albums (Saturday Johnny & Jimmy the Rat) & the double Roaring Jack album already mentioned, and received a 3rd (In sleepy Scotland) as a birthday pressie. I also got money to buy another one when he next performs in Sydney (5th March) then I'll see him again at the National at Easter. It was a fabulous show, most of the audience knew all his songs, they kept demanding encores & he finally stopped 1155. I was far too sick to be out but there was no way I was going to miss the concert or leave early. sandra |
Subject: RE: Origins: Traditional or Alastair Hewlett? From: Piers Date: 14 Feb 05 - 03:58 PM The sleeve notes to Roaring Jack's 'Through the Smoke of Innocence' suggest Hulett wrote it, it is called 'Wild Rover Again'. I really don't think this is one of his best. |
