Subject: lyrics: 'british army' & 'come out and fight' From: mryan Date: 01 Dec 98 - 06:48 AM I am looking for the lyrics for two Irish songs. I believe the title of the first song is 'British Army' and some of the lyrics are "...and if I had a face like you, I'd join the British army...". I believe that the title to the second song is 'Come Out and Fight' and some of the lyrics are "...come out you black and tans. Come out and fight me like a man..." If you know of a web site that has a listing of the lyrics to either of these songs or if you know the lyrics and wouldn't mind typing them, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Subject: RE: lyrics: 'british army' & 'come out and fight' From: Big Mick Date: 01 Dec 98 - 07:22 AM Hi, If you go up to the top of this thread, you will see a box in the upper right hand corner that says "search the Digitrad .....". Enter the word "tans" and the search engine will look for every song in our database with that word. I think you will find that the first song listed will be "Come out, Ye Black and Tans". Next type in [join the British army], be sure and use the brackets as this will search the database for that exact phrase. The second song listed by the search will be the one you are looking for. When coming to the DT/Mudcat, one of the protocols that we would like to see is for one to search the DT to see if the song is in there. If not, then post a thread. I have yet to find the song that was not located using this method. Welcome to our community, All the best, Mick |

Subject: Lyr Add: COME OUT YOU BLACK AND TANS From: jtmulque@atgnet.com Date: 02 Dec 98 - 09:06 AM You can find BLACK AND TANS in an album called The Very Best of Irish Rebel Songs by The Jolly Beggarman put out by Fiesta Record Company 251 Broadway, Lynbrook NY 11563 The lyrics go: I was born on a Dublin street Where the royal drums did beat And the loving English feet they tramped all over us; And each and every night That my father came home tight, He’d invite the neighbors outside with this chorus: Well, come out you Black and Tans. Come out and fight me like a man. Show your wives how you won medals down in Flanders, And how the IRA Made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lanes of Killeshandras. (sp?) Come let me hear you tell How you slammed the brave Parnell When you thought him well and truly persecuted, And where are the jeers and sneers You so gladly let us hear When our heroes of '16 were executed? Chorus Come tell us how you slew Them poor Arabs 2 by 2. Like the Zulus, they had spears and bows and arrows. How you bravely faced each one With your sixteen-pounder gun, And you frightened them poor natives to their marrow. Chorus Well the day is coming fast And the time is near at last When each seanin will be cast aside before us; And if there is a need, Well, my kids will say God speed With a verse or two of Stephen B (sp?) in chorus. |
