She might have prayed to *your* god once, she quite obviously doesn't now. Why are you seeking some sort of leverage? That is preaching in my book - trying to twist someone's words/feelings/views against them so that they will believe what you would like them to. In my experience, only monotheists (christers & muslims, generally, judaists don't normally seek converts) take this attitude. Pagans leave well alone. Perhaps you should think about that? For myself, I believe you are in the hands of your Lord. I just don't believe that your Lord is all that you believe. You can scrub omniprescient, omnipowerful, & pure goodness, for a start. Which leaves your arguments as to why you are the only right just a little weak, methinks...

If you are asking me have I ever prayed to a Christian interpretation of God...then yes I did when I was a Child. I do try not to tell Lies. White or Black or Grey ones!. I am a practising Pict Witch and have been for a very long time. My beliefs may touch other beliefs in the respect of Doing no Harm, caring for my fellow Human beings, Animals and Planet and trying to do good when I can. I am far from Perfect and at times, yes, my Energies get low....I however have a different way of dealing with that situation from say Dewey (who this thread is actually about...not my beliefs).. So I hope that this is HONEST:>) enough for you. Although I cannot see what your interest is in asking me but since you asked me nicely I have replied. I have many Friends from many different beliefs and I respect them and would hopefully refrain from pushing my Spiritual Path ahead of theirs. Whatever works for your Spirit...and I can HONESTLY say that my Path has NEVER failed me. May you walk in the Light Mike and be Blessed. The Truth is how you interpret it.....that's the beauty of us all be individuals. We all hold our own Truth and walk our own Path. I have lied to myself though. I don't believe in the threat of hell either. I think that the normal human state of mind (existing in a perceived state of separation from the divine and each other and everything else) IS hell. That hell, of course, has its better and worse moments, and some people like it just fine as long as things appear to be going well for them, according to their expectations. No real God would be so sick as to create the kind of fiendish hell for "sinners" that certain fundamentalists imagine. People would create it though! You bet they would...and they have, over and over again...at places like Auschwitz or the medieval witch burnings or Jamestown. People need no God to make a hell for them. They do it all by themselves. |

I suggest that perhaps you should take the time to read the Gospels with an open mind, and see what Jesus has to say about it all. In the meantime, please remember that this is an open forum, and people have the right to disagree with you. And I would have to say that Bill does indeed hate Christianity, maybe in the same way my husband hates getting his head wet or getting up way too early or being cold-- it just don't sit right. But the really odd thing (which Dewey has not taken the time or relationship-building to realize) is that Bill loves Christians, as he encounters them individually, and far, far better than "we Christians" tend to love one another. Now to me, the great benefit of this dynamic is that being friends with Bill is so humbling that I NEED JESUS to help me learn to do a better job at being Bill's friend-- or anyone else's. Dewey is like a lot of Christians wandering around in the world burdened by the Gospel: it's not a requirement that maturing in the faith occur before one tries to live out the limited understanding one may have attained of the Gospel. But then it's not a requirement that ANY Mudcatter be mature in living out their own belief system before posting the most bloviated distortion of their system, either! To that extent I would have to agree with Dewey that this place is full of hypocrites. But then since I count myself one-- a hypocrite-- I can hardly say I HATE hypocrites, cuz ya know, we'se all human beans and when we do our individual silly crap, whaddaya gonna do? Gotta love 'em. So Dewey, to add to my PM-- you're playing with matches in a barnful of carefully put up hay, and you really don't know what you are doing in this effort to "save" and "warn" people. The motives may be pure but the application is not culturally approriate. Over the few years I have been here in Mudville I have made no attempts to hide my Faith in Jesus Christ. I believe most folks here know that. But rather than beat the drum I try to offer pro-human, peo-earth ideas and view points. One can serve the Lord much better by "example" rather than "testamony"... God doesn't ask us to fill out applications to be processed by middle men before He agrees to love us all. God loves Bill D as He does you. Might of fact, I love Bill D and having known him persoanlly for some time know also like him and his lovely wife, Rita, and consider them to be not only my friends but the kinds of people the world needs more of. They are both giving, generous and peascefull people. Now we all have to face a final accounting of our lives and how much love we gave verses how much we took. When I look at Bill D's life as a giving, peacefull man and compare it to George Bush's life, a man who for political gain is responsible for the death of well over 100,000 people, it's a no-brainer as to which one will have the mopst explaining to do... I mean no offense to you, Dewey, but you might wanta to spend just a little more time in the New Testament and hear what Jesus is telling us... Peace. Bobert |

I have met him and can personally attest to this. Your attack on him reflects on the type of person you are. The Christian teaching that I received would not allow for this sort of behaviour. I generally don't read your threads as I do not find them interesting but, if you set yourself up in the way that you do you will have people coming back at you. Anyone who believes that they have a message to spread will find the same thing. However, this site is what is members wish it to be and, predominantly music but with a general discussion element. Discussion means that diferent people put their differing views. If you stay around you will find that those who try to insist that they are the only ones that have the truth are given short shrift. If you break the 'rules' you will find that all you will garner is unpopularity. If you cannot abide by these 'rules' then maybe it is best that you leave. |
