HUNGRY HASH HOUSE
IF I LOSE, LET ME LOSE
I'M THE MAN THAT RODE THE MULE 'ROUND THE WORLD
LEAVING HOME

MOVING DAY

A day or so ago in one of the threads here I skimmed over a reference to a book about Charlie Poole, the banjo player and rounder from the 1930's. I've checked Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble and don't seem to find it listed. Anyone have a source ? Thanks.

Rambling Blues: The Life & Songs of Charlie Poole, Kinney Rorrer, 913 Vicar Road, Danville, VA 24540, 1982.

Kinney Rorrer is related to both Charlie Poole and Posey Rorer, fiddler on the earliest North Carolina Rambler recordings. He also wrote the notes to both of the Charlie Poole CD reissues on County.

Dale, you'll be pleased to know there is a third volume available in the County Charlie Poole reissue series - notes again by Rorrer. County CD 3516.

Michael, the lyrics to all Poole's recordings are printed in 'Rambling Blues', source given above by Dale.

Regards, Stewie.

County Records, Box 191, Floyd VA 24149 also carries Rorrer's biography, a true labor of love. There is a 3rd verse to There'll Come a Time and I think Mac Benford sings it on his solo record-- it can also be found in Sigmund Spaeth's Read'em and Weep, The Songs You Forgot to Remember. (Is this book still in print somewhere? Lovely source of lyrics) Hope this helps, PETE

this info might be more recent, seems lots of people were interested, also relates to Sweet Sixteen thread

To contact Kinney Rorrer email him at ktrorrer@gamewood.net. Please include your name, telephone number, email and mailing addresses if you would like a book. The cost of the book is $12, including shipping.
