Hello there. Are there any slow and easy tune sessions in the Herts, Beds and Bucks area. I have just driven over 400 miles today to get to Buttonbox's Slow and easy tunes session. It was great, but it is rather along way away. Does anyone know of any where the people are friendly and play slow and easy tunes, like good old Buttonbox and pals, so I can learn quicker? Thankyou in advance.

Not so much name your tunes, more like name your location!

Some people are happy to do 400 mile round trips for sessions, but most prefer a shorter ride! Give a rough 50mile radius from where you live and I'm sure someone can find/organise a session for you!

By the way, if anyone is intrested in running a Slow and Easy tunes session, (once a month or so) please let me know. I might have the perfect place for it. Cheers.

Oh yeah Liz you are right, I am happy to drive 400 miles for a session. The only trouble is, it took me so long to get there, there was only half an hour of the session left. Buttonbox and his pals where proper gents and extened it a bit for me, so I could record an hour of them. Proper Dudes. And I have just had another thought, how about we find a venue and then charge a pound to get in, or have a whip round, and give the money to who ever runs the session. Because they are providing a service which I think a lot of people want. And I neeeed it, and anyone who has heard me play will agree.

Or another idea. Why don't we try something at The White Horse in Dunstable (Finbars) This is where The Friendly Earth Acoustic Gatherings are going to be. Starting in April. There are on once a month, so once a month inbetween would be good, and maybe do something at The Dunstable Festival too. Any offers?

Slow and easy in HertsBedsBucks you must be joking, all the ones I've been to over the years play at warp factor six and if it's a tune they really know then even the Enterprise wouldn't be able to keep up.
But a group in Cambridgeshire do things a lot different from round here.
Try the Greenshoots who meet at the Red Lion, Whittlesford, which is near the Duxford junction of the M11. Not very close to home but not 400 miles away.
The only contact I have is Paul Hardy, 15 Kentings, Comberton, Cambridge, CB3 7DT
They used to meet every two weeks, Monday evenings, in the function room of the Red Lion and you used to be able, for a small fee, to get copies of the tunes for the next meeting. Don't expect miracles, but keep practicing and in a year or so's time you to will be at warp factor six.

At this time of year I'm normally to be found in a ditch just north of Bedford, because as the song goes 'In winter when the sky is grey, we'll hedge and we'll ditch our time away', helping to farm the old fashioned way and that's why I'm 'a gud ole bwoy.

and I like to rise when the sun she rises too.

Martin ,I can plug your White horse if I have the dates.

I was in Dunstable yesterday,I go there once a week and its interesting to discover how many local people rely very much on public transport[ation]

This puts Snorbens out of reach

always advocated £1 pot, that how come we have the Windward and now the Spotlight clubs up and running booking guests every week

this Friday its Steve the ref Last and on Sunday Mike Deavin

at the Royal British Legion

didnt mean to hi-jk, but thanks for coming to Graeme Knights's CD launch

Vin Garbut hoping to resume in May, but his health is the priority so we'll wait and see.

Steve Tilston on 1st July

Hi, I'm sure I've given this link before to the Barton-le-clay community. If I can manage to do the blue clicky thing, here is the regularly updated website that is used by most of us folky musicians in the Bucks/Beds area on what music sessions are around :
www.session.musician.org.uk
Admitedly several of them can be quite fast, but we are all friendly, honest. There is nothing like being thrown in at the deep end to help you learn quickly, even if it is only one in every 4 notes to start with, you will gradually pick them up. It is also a good idea to record the occasional session to get an idea of the core sets of tunes that tend to get played. And of course always ask for the names of the tunes after they are played - we all do that. Generally, you will find that early on in the evening is when the slower/easier tunes are played.
You will find my name by a few of the sessions listed which shouldn't be too far from Barton - if you dare venture the other side of the M1 !
Sally

Bucks is a long thin county but if you don't mind travelling 400 miles to a session maybe South Bucks is not too far really.
Not sure about Slow and Easy but there is a morris-based (mainly English) session at The Red Lion, Coleshill, Bucks (off the A355 between Amersham and Beaconsfield) - usually on the First Sunday of the month but due to bank hols etc the next two will be the Second Sunday ie the 10th April and 8th May. 8ish start.

However it's a friendly social session (often we talk as much as play) and quiet noodling is acceptable! A bit Melodeon dominated but that's morris for you.

The pub sells good beer and the landlord just won the Home Counties "Community Pub of the Year" award. Encourages music, morris, trad pub games etc so worth supporting.

We also have an Irish session in the same pub, last Sunday of the month. Not really slow or easy but beginners welcome nonetheless. And yes, there WILL be one on EASTER SUNDAY (for people at a loose end).

Helen

Another good one is Alison Mc Farlane's session of course, at The Rose and Crown in St Albans Herts. On a Thursday night. 8.30pm

if you're a 'beginner', forget about the Rose and crown, they are most unsympathetic to novices
