Subject: Camping at Whitby From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 11 Apr 05 - 08:22 AM Stoupes Cross campsite used by many attending folk festivals in Whitby has closed it's site to tents and touring caravans. How long this situation will continue I do not know but it may be prudent to call beforehand, rather than assume you will be able to use the site. Furthermore the next site down (used to be Haven)also had a sign saying site closed to tents. |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: GUEST,Whiterainbow Date: 11 Apr 05 - 11:44 AM Other than half way up green lane nick, where else is there to camp? WR |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 11 Apr 05 - 12:37 PM There are further smaller sites down the lane past Stoupes Cross and "Haven" and it might only be a temporary closure, it would be advisable to check beforehand. At both festivals there are the official sites for ticket holders. the other sites however have I believe limited facilities |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Michael Date: 12 Apr 05 - 05:25 AM There was one a bit further along in Hawsker called Manor (House?) Farm, that we used to use, don't know if it's still there. Mike |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 12 Apr 05 - 05:31 AM Mike There are numerous small sites along the road on which Stoupes Cross stands and others as you suggest out at Hawsker and Stainsacre. I do not know how big they are or what facilities they have Cheers Raggy |

Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Mrs_Annie Date: 12 Apr 05 - 09:13 AM I spent 2 weeks trying to find a site in Whitby that accepted tents. Even the Tourist Information couldn't help. The 2 sites that are listed both told me they were not taking tents this year. In the end have given up and booked a hotel. |

Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Terry K Date: 12 Apr 05 - 12:27 PM The trouble is getting back late at night without having to drive. I did notice there seemed to be lots of cabs last year, but I'd really rather be within staggering distance. |

Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Les in Chorlton Date: 12 Apr 05 - 01:53 PM Sandfield Park Camp Site We stayed at Sandfield Park last year it was mostly dry and quiet. A bit of a walk but long enough to sober up a bit and empty bladder. Strongly recomended |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: oombanjo Date: 12 Apr 05 - 03:36 PM Raggy It was the same last year, I normally pay for the following year as I leave, so they let me put the van on hard standing, but even at the August fest it was still a problem. |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Terry K Date: 12 Apr 05 - 05:41 PM I think the problem last year was caused by the weather - almost everywhere was closed because you couldn't get through the mud to get on to a hardstanding. So the problem snowballed, especially as the official sites were closed too. I reckon I'll try for Sandfield Park this year, I had worked out that it may be just about walkable unless it rains. |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Nick Date: 13 Apr 05 - 09:08 AM Perhaps there'll be lots of floor space at the Plough and in the yard? |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: Mrs_Annie Date: 13 Apr 05 - 09:26 AM Well yes, life is simpler if you have a caravan. Everywhere says 'NO TENTS' !! |
Subject: RE: Camping at Whitby From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 13 Apr 05 - 10:43 AM Not at Stoupes Cross, they are not accepting tourers at the moment, however I think this may be due to illness |
