Looking dfor the title and lyrics for a song I heard years ago I think by Bill Monroe. It starts:
"Ive laid around and played around this old town too long.
Summer's come and gone and winter's coming on"...
Anyone know what I'm talking about because I sure don't.:~) Thanks Neil

Bill Monroe Songbook. might be of interest. The songbook downloads as a 400 KB .pdf file. It's lyrics only but most of the tunes are well known. (The actual download target is at Monroe Book)

Warning: this "book" seems to be in a different place every time I look for it, and doesn't consistently show on Googles for Monroe. It usually pops up if you search for "Good to Blue" and/or "Hikaru." I'd suggest saving the .pdf if you get lucky and find it before it moves again.

John

I've never heard Bill's version, seems like I got it from the Kingston Trio.

An error in the Monroe lyrics linked by Sorcha-
'Night' Sheriff should be 'High' sheriff.

In the Songbook (thanks, John, I copied it) there are mis-spellings. In the same song, same verse, sheriff is spelled 'sherill.' There are others, but they aren't serious (this is a Japanese effort).
