Could anyone please say what the chords are for Maggie Holland's great "A Place Called England"? The words are listed elsewhere, but not the music. Or even the key, and the chord numbers, to keep it simple, would be great.
If this is already listed in the site somewhere, apologies for starting a new thread - I couldn't find it.
Thanks in advance
Norman

Listen to June Tabor's version.

The key may not be of use to you, you have to to pitch it for your voice.

Do you have Maggie's version on CD?

Tonic -I walked out on a bright may morning

Sub Dom - Like a -tonic- Hero in a- dom7th- song

there thats a start

I found it out by picking the melody as accurately as I could, and I think I did O K, then putting on the chords.

I started a thread about this incredible song some time ago, and Maggie generously posted the chords herself, about halfway down the thread.

Here is a link.

Thanks, both of you. I've now found the thread (and read it all the way through) and found what's needed. I'll try guit. and banjo chords and work the melody out as per Breezy's advice.

If you mean "The Scarecrow",

Ah, but you'd lay me down and love me,
Ah, but you'd lay me down and love me, if you could.
For you're only a bag of rags in an overall
That the wind sways so the crows fly away
And the corn can grow tall.

It was written by Lal Waterson.
