Subject: Lyr Add: FLY LIKE A BIRD (Boz Scaggs) From: Dave'sWife Date: 25 Apr 05 - 11:19 PM Is it THIS one? Fly Like a Bird There was a howl that night A howling like they never heard before A cry so loud old granddad almost hit the door He said, "I love this child as much as any one that she ever bore, But I thank the Lord we won't be having any more." Then the baby heard the sweetest sound he'd ever heard In tones so beautiful he hung on every word She sang, "Hush, my love, granny's little dove is going to take to the sky." It was on such a night he learned to fly like a bird. Now the years have passed and memories come and go He hears that voice that rocked him gently so A calm will descend and there's peace at the end of the darkest night Sometimes I cry, sometimes I fly like a bird. Now the years have passed and memories come and go He hears that voice that rocked him gently so Well, the rain's gonna fall and the wind my blow in the darkest night Sometimes I cry, sometimes I fly like a bird. A calm will descend and there's peace at the end of the darkest night Sometimes I cry, sometimes I fly like a bird |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fly like a bird From: Dave'sWife Date: 26 Apr 05 - 03:17 AM Sorry.. found it on a Boz Scaggs Lyrics site, but I can't be sure that he wrote it. He wrote most of his own songs, but the site is just a mass of lyrics without titles or attribution. They list anything the guy ever sang! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fly like a bird From: GUEST,J.B. Date: 26 Apr 05 - 06:57 AM That's it! I don't think he wrote it, perhaps someone else knows. I will try to get the Boz version though. I bet its good. Thanks |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fly like a bird From: Dave'sWife Date: 29 Apr 05 - 02:20 AM If you aren't joking.. Boz Scaggs.. a highly successful pop song writer/singer of the 70s. He had some great albums.. sort of a cross between Van Morrison and Joe Jackson. Early in his career, he played with Steve Miller of The Steve Miller Band. They went to college together I think. Then he struck out on his own and did some very funky blue-eyed soul with a jazzy twist to it. He wrote some great tunes, put out solid albums, the best of which is.. SILK DEGRESS. I take that out along with his Greatest Hits CD and play them back to back every now and then. Some of his hits include: The Lido Shuffle We're All Alone (he hit with it and so did Rita Coolidge) The Lowdown Jojo Can't think of any more of the top of my head, but he had hits.. one after the other. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fly like a bird From: Lin in Kansas Date: 29 Apr 05 - 11:35 PM Thanks, Dave's Wife-- Always appreciate new knowledge. I had actually heard of him, but don't recall hearing any of his songs, since neither blue-eyed soul nor jazz are among the music I generally am familiar with. Thanks for posting to this lyric request. Lin |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fly like a bird From: Dave'sWife Date: 30 Apr 05 - 12:35 AM I'll tell ya Lin, Boxz Scaggs was beloved of certain critics when he first started releasing records. However, because he had a couple of albums that were monster bestsellers, he tends to get dismissed today as a pop phenomenon. I recently bought Silk Degrees and the Greatest Hits CD because I was making a 70s oriented mix-tape for a cousin of mine who is disabled and bedridden. I wanted to find songs from his childhood that were upbeat. After listening to the 2 CDs back to back for a couple of days, I decided to keep them instead of turning them in for credit. If you like Van Morrison from the Bang years, you'd probably like these two CDs. Also, that record Joe Jackson did with 'Steppin' out' on it has the same feel. The records hold up very well and are reminiscnat of maybe some of the better Smokey Robinson songs.. something along the lines of 'Aint that peculiar' for example. He edges more towards jazz than any motown act, but it all works. If you have access to an Mp3 device, you might want to download a few songs and give them a listen. You'll be pleasantly surprised by what you hear. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fly like a bird From: GUEST,Sandra Date: 30 Apr 05 - 12:40 AM This is a beautiful song, sort of old-worldly, or almost Cajun-y, and it's on one of my home-made cd's. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and give it a listen. You'll love it. (Maybe...) Sandra |
