Subject: Lo and Behold From: GUEST,Penguin Egg Date: 02 May 05 - 05:35 PM It is the only song of James Taylor that I like, but I do admire Lo and Behold from his Fire and Rain album- the other songs are awful. I also have Alexis Korner doing this song, but I am not crazy about his version. Has anyone else covered Lo and Behold? This song sounds perfect for the Staple Singers. So, what other versions are there of this rather good song? |
Subject: RE: Lo and Behold From: pavane Date: 03 May 05 - 08:11 AM Don't know about that, but I too was not a fan of his until I saw him live (Lincoln, 1971). He really was GOOD as a performer. (Still is, I suppose?). Some songers come over much better live than on recordings, and there are also those who sound good on recordings, but are a little disappointing live. Sandy Denny and Ralph McTell were also at the same festival, and neither was as memorable. Another performer at the same event who made a good impression was Buffy St Marie. |
Subject: RE: Lo and Behold From: GUEST,Sleepless Dad Date: 03 May 05 - 01:14 PM I went to www.allmusic.com and did a search for that song title. According to them the other folks that covered that James Taylor song were Odetta, the 70's horn band Cold Blood and a lovely sounding band called Pollution. |

Subject: RE: Lo and Behold (James Taylor) From: GUEST,Sleepless Dad Date: 03 May 05 - 11:37 PM Odetta was one of the original voices that transended the great folk scare of the 60's. Many would say that she has an earthy robust voice that can handle many styles of music. I have not heard her version of this particular song but anything she does would be worth listening to. I would imagine that there are several threads here at the Mudcat that you do a search on to find out more about her. |
