Subject: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Max Date: 10 May 05 - 10:26 AM In years past we used to do a post getaway concert in Mudcatville. Thinking about doing it this year if we can get enough folks interested. I've been cultivating some relationships here in the Delaware Valley, and we've made some good friends and found "the scene". There is a coffee house (with beer and wine) in Wilmington that seems to like us. Thing is, this coffee house, The 4W5, is where David Bromberg hangs out. We played with him there in March, and he seemed to really enjoy our spirit and drive. We got to be friends with one of the owners and everyone seems excited about the idea of putting on a show/festival sometime. They put on a bluegrass night every Tuesday, and its amazing. Reminds me of exactly what we mudcatters do every time we get together. Sitting in circles with some truly amazing musicians and jamming all night long. Amazing stuff. Anyhow, I am pretty sure I could get the place for that Monday after the getaway. I could probably get Bromberg to come play with us too. Some great bands too. The Sin City Band, Angel Band... truly the cream of the crop around here. Check This Out. So what do you think? |

Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Susan of DT Date: 21 Sep 05 - 06:49 PM This sounds like fun. Dick and I will try to make it. Exactly where in Wilmington is it? If a few people need a place to crash afterward, we are about an hour and a half away (North)and could put up some people. Partway to Newark Airport, should people be headed there. You would need your own transportation since our car will be totally full of Camsco's CDs with no room for additional passengers. |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Allan C. Date: 21 Sep 05 - 07:02 PM Here is a link to the coffeehouse. At the moment there is no indication on the Live Entertainment schedule of anything on Oct. 17. Unless he posts between now and then, I'll give Max a jingle tomorrow to see if he has finalzed anything with them. |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: KathWestra Date: 21 Sep 05 - 09:06 PM Just so you know, Joe Hickerson is having a big 70th birthday concert on the Monday night following the Getaway. It's in Rockville, MD, and is sponsored by the House of Musical Traditions, and will feature an interview with Mary Cliff as well as lots of music. It would be nice for the Washington folks if there weren't a big conflicting event on the same night--although Wilmington is a good two hours north of D.C., so it's probably not a problem. Even though I will be heading back to Maine, I plan to be at Joe's gig, no matter what. |

PM me, if necessary, anyone who can answer any of the above. Tw |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Max Date: 04 Oct 05 - 05:23 PM OK, we're on at the 4w5 coffee house, downtown Wilmington, Delaware, USA, Monday October 17th from 8pm to Midnight EST. Here is a link to their official site and here is a link to their myspace page. 4 West 5th St. is the address (Thus 4w5). We're running a pretty aggressive marketing campaign to try to get the word out locally. Newspapers and Radio stations, flyers, etc. What I could use is a list of probable performers. I'm currently assuming the following: Big Mick Leadfingers El Greko Gutbucketeer Ebbie Dick & Susan Micca A few maybes, but I won't bother mentioning them. Any more? If David Bromberg is not on tour that day, he'll be there. As I said before, I can sleep plenty. So far I am hosting 2 folks, and I have room for 4 to 6 more very comfortably (couches, beds and air mattresses). Let me know who is coming and the genres you will be performing. The reporters and djs are asking me a lot of questions about what kind of stuff we'll be doing, and I can't answer them properly unless I know who is coming. Any other help you could think of would be great too. more later... |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Leadfingers Date: 04 Oct 05 - 06:48 PM Max - I will have my banjola , mandolin , and whistles , and the offer of a loan guitar ! I sing all sorts of Trad and contemporary songs , a bit of Music Hall , Almost Jazz and nearly blues ! And I can probably compete with Micca for Parodies , though none are my own ! I will have a hire car so can offer transport , and would appreciate somewhere to sleep on Monday night ! |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Susan of DT Date: 04 Oct 05 - 07:04 PM Max - I am not a performer. Participant in song circles, yes; but performer, no. Dick will be happy to perform. |

Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: George Papavgeris Date: 05 Oct 05 - 03:53 AM Max, I'll be doing my own stuff as a singer/songwriter, hopefully borrowing a guitar from someone there (Big Mick? pretty please?). A simple way to characterise my material would be my slogan "singing the praises of ordinary people" - important scenes from ordinary lives. And Vanessa (La Inglesa) and I will indeed be grateful for some floorspace at your house for the night. |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Susan of DT Date: 05 Oct 05 - 09:02 AM I just ran off directions from Ramblewood to the Cafe (I'll bring a few copies) and it takes under an hour. How late can we stay at Ramblewood on Monday? What happens in between? |
Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: karen k Date: 05 Oct 05 - 10:28 AM Susan, A bunch of us usually got to Cracker Barrell a bit south of Ramblewood off I-95. You are welcome to join us if we go and we have each year we've been at Ramblewood. They usually boot us out of the camp around 10 or 11am as they close the camp for the winter that day and they want to get it done. Hopefully Jeri won't get stuck on the stump at the White House again. Beyond that I guess we could just go up to Wilmington and take it from there. I'll look in the AAA Tour Book and on the web to see if there is anything interesting to do around Wilmington. I'll need a copy of your directions, please. Don't know where I'm staying yet. karen |

I have 3 beds, a futon, 2 couches and 2 air mattresses, and a whole lot of floor. |

Subject: RE: Post Getaway Concert 2005 (Oct 17) From: Max Date: 14 Oct 05 - 06:54 PM Just sent this is our email list of 833 locals. Welcome to the Other 99% - Revival of the Fittest Email Newsletter We have a very special show coming up this Monday, October 17th at the 4W5 Cafe (4w5cafe.org) in beautiful downtown Wilmington Delaware. The show starts at 8pm. In conjunction with The Mudcat Cafe (www.mudcat.org) and The Folklore Society of Greater Washington (www.fsgw.org), The Other 99% (www.other99.com) is hosting several musicians from across the pond, as they say. Our performers include: Mike "Micca" Patterson from London England. I can name over 100 people that have seen him naked, including myself, but I understand he'll be fully clothed for his set of parodies. Terry "Leadfingers" Silver from Middlesex, UK. In his words: "I will have my banjola , mandolin , and whistles. I sing all sorts of Traditional and contemporary songs, a bit of Music Hall , Almost Jazz and nearly blues." "Big" Mick Lane, now out of Berlin, NJ who will be doing Irish ballads and good ol' American Folk. George "El Greko" Papavgeris from Chesham, UK who will be doing his own singer/songwriter thing. In his words: "singing the praises of ordinary people - important scenes from ordinary lives." Dick Greenhaus, currently out of the great state of Connecticut can play anything and everything that ever was. I'm particularly fond of his flailing banjo. John "Giok" MacKenzie from Lairg, UK will only tell me: "I do lots of things badly and will inflict it on people at the drop of a hat." So that should be interesting. Skarphedinn "Skarpi" Haroldsson from Thorlakshofn, Iceland. Iceland? Nuff said. The Other 99%. Enthusiastic American Roots Music. I hope you can make it out, this is going to be something special that rarely happens in our neck of the woods. You may think Wilmington is out of your way, but c'mon, we're bringing them in from England and Iceland. For more information you can call or email me at max@other99.com or 610-517-8858. The 4W5 Café is at 4 West 5th Street (corner of 5th and Market) in downtown Wilmington Delaware. Phone is 302-661-0100 or email polly@4w5cafe.org. Thank you for your time, and I hope to see you there. Max (Woodpussy) Spiegel The Other 99% |
