Here's an email message I recently received from Karen Ryan (of The London Lasses and Pete Quinn), which I think might interest people here :

Return to Camden Town 2005

The UK's most popular and renowned traditional Irish music, song and dance festival is pleased to announce two exciting 'taster' concerts in the build-up to the festival's full glory in October, 2005, both taking place at The London Irish Centre, 52 Camden Square, NW1 and starting at 8pm.

The line-up for the first concert on Friday, 20th May features:
the impressive traditional singer Helen Roche whose recent solo album, Shake the Blossom Early, was described by fRoots magazine as a 'thoroughly gorgeous, fulfilling and utterly essential album'. Helen will appear with fellow musicians Conan McDonnell and Michael Lempelius;
acclaimed Kerry-born accordionist Colette O'Leary, formerly of the very popular Bumblebees, who has subsequently worked with the Galway chanteuse Mary Coughlan and Mark Nevin of Fairground Attraction, as well as recording her own recent The Attic Room CD with vibraphone jazz maestro Roger Beaujolais. Colette will be accompanied by fine Slip Jigolos guitarist Paddy Gallagher;
acclaimed duo Alan and Clare O'Leary - a father and daughter pairing on flute and fiddle respectively and two long-time stalwarts of the South London session scene - Alan has long been a major figure on the London-Irish scene and runs his own Copperplate CD promotion and distribution company. Alan and Clare will be joined by piper Brendan McAuley.
impressive young talented group Meitheal Cheoil - based in North London, this group made an appearance at one of RtCT's preview concerts last year and opened the Festival with sets from their CD the year before that.
The second concert on Friday 8th July highlights:
Slip Jigolos, a sparkling and passionate quartet incorporating accordionist Andy Martyn (one of the Alias Ron Kavana band), fiddler Adrian Bourke from the legendary Thatch Céilí Band and two powerful singer-guitarists Paddy Gallagher and Chris Sadler;
one of Ireland's premier accordionists, John Bowe, a master of his craft and a justifiably popular and influential figure in London's Irish session scene. John will be accompanied by stellar guitarist Jackie Wynne;
the formidable flute of James Carty, the paragon of musical eloquence, accompanied here by London Lasses' pianist, Pete Quinn.
six piece traditional band Siansa providing a great instrumental mix with Tim Dowd (uilleann pipes, low whistles and vocals), Harriet Earis (harp), Dave Henderson (guitar, bouzouki, octave mandola, banjo and vocals), Geoff Pollitt (fiddle guitar, mandola and mandolin) and Colman Connolly (flute, uilleann pipes and whistle). All Ireland champion singer Seamus Brogan will also perform on the night.
Full details can be found at the Return to Camden Town website - www.returntocamden.org - or by contacting the London Irish Centre at 020 7916 2222.
