5 miles west of Manchester.

I am now sat here listening to 'A taste of Silvo', purchased for a tenner last night. Cheap at twice the price! What a fantastic performer and all round great guy:-)

Yes! We have a good guest every other week more or less. Usualy on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. The ones in between are good singers nights:-) It sometimes works out that singers and guest nights swap over due to guest availability etc but the above is a good rule of thumb.

A better one is check out the web site. Isn't always up to date but we try our best:-)

Can't get there meself sad to say but saw him a couple of years back at Poynton and he was fab. He still has the magic and am sure it will be a great night. Still got an Alex Campbell LP (a real plastic one) of Johnny with Dave Moses featuring songs like Corn Bread Peas & Black Molasses, Freight Train. A great voice and pesonality.

He is also appearing at the Irvine Folk club next wednesday, which is farther north than Manchester Irvine is in Scotland

Tam --you're making me wish I was back in Irvine! Johnny is one of the best, and I know a few in the folk club in the Golf Hotel who'll literally be welcoming an old and treasured friend. First glimpse I ever had of Johhny was the night I walked into Irvine club [the auld Eglinton, upstairs]and there was this big black guy IN FULL HIGHLAND DRESS singing with great gusto "the Mingulay Boat Song"! What a performer, and what a voice. You lucky so-an'-so....

He was brilliant when he was with Dave Moses as well.I've got the album Time enough to spare and a pic of him holding my son taken about twenty years ago at Horwich folk fest.

Go and see him he is amazing-he was at Cottingham Live last night and he s just wonderful.
