It's that time of the month again. This a holiday weekend and I already have cancellations. So - who's in, who's out, and who needs a bed? Saturday at 6PM until whenever. Food, drink, music, cats and dogs, etc.

Haven't a clue as to what food-type stuff we'll bring. Tom's working at the Gold Bug Antiques in York all day -- I'll have to pick him up on my way to South Portland.

And I just found out that there's a party starting up the hill from us about the time we'll be getting home on Sunday. (Double birthday party.)

We're not, of course, having our traditional sometimes annual (haven't had it since 2001 for various reasons) "Tune It Or Die" Music Party and Ladyslipper Festival. But speaking of ladyslippers, they've just started turning pink -- I counted 19 yesterday in the flock closest to the head of the driveway. There's another puddle of them further down that I'll check this morning.

Well waah-hoo!

Memorial Weekend is pretty crazy around here, in between traditional Family gatherings (since we have about the biggest house of the local tribe, holiday melees usually happen here) and my Reenacting activities (We'll be marching in the Westbrook parade this year) it gets pretty hectic. That reminds me; I'd better blow the spiders out of my fife!

But i'll run it by Domestic Management, who really seemed to enjoy the last one we attended.

I might even build one of my semi-notorious knock-down & drag-out multi-bean (& lots of obligatory garlic) salads.

We'll be checking in a bit more frequently than we have been of late, for a while anyways.

Uncle Jacque,
Have you been in a Hallmark store lately? They have a line of nautical resin/carvings(?) and I swear they used you for the captain's face. Scary...and expensive.

>>It's that time of the month again.<<

Sinsull.. Music and festive atmosphere is NOT what comes to my mind when I See/hear those words! LOL.    I think about brewing up some raspberry leaf tea, socking in a supply of Ibuprofen and digging out the heating pad or Hot water bottle!

On a lighter note, perhaps BatGoddess will make the Pesto Shortbreads this time. I'll have to get to testing the Stilton & Walnut Shortbread theoretical recipe so she can have a choice of what Savory Shortbread to make this time.

And I might even have a chance to make some variety of savory shortbread on Saturday. It's been pouring for days -- we've had 7 rainy weekends in a row. I've got sooooooo much yard work that needs doing and stuff I want to paint.

But I might get some baking done; who knows?

Right now I've got to scamper off (in the rain) to work.

Regretfully, Judy and I will be shivering together in the family cottage this weekend, watching the rain come down in between shaking out all the bedding to see what had nested there during the long, hard winter. Hopefully the Franklin stove will be operational. One year flying squirrels built a nest in the chimney and we smoked ourselves out. What joy!

We will raise a glass or two in your honor Saturday evening.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I am thinking of doing Italian sausage with sweet peppers and onions and some nice crusty bread. I think this will be a small group so if we run short we'll order pizza.

The guy behind me is building an ark and Freddy is collecting two of every small rodent he can find - I have tried to explain that dead animals can't multiply but he just doesn't get it. Today's addition to the menagerie was a tiny baby squireel. SIGH! Time to bell the cat.

Maybe I can sue the rascals for delfamation of carachature!?

They at least ought to pay me a royalty... or would that be a "bounty"?

Well, I had really really hoped to make this one, but am going instead to Helen Schneyer's in Vermont. She's not feeling too well these days, and has been pretty much bedridden, and Dick Swain, Nancy Mattila, and I are converging from different directions to cheer her up, eat lasagna, and plant flowers in her yard. Save some songs for June, and I'll bring something yummy to share. xo Kathy

Did it again -- just sent Jeff the photos from the April Song Circle and he's got them up at Member's Photos -- Events. He's so much faster than I am!!! (Thanks, Jeff.)

I'm sure you'll find them.

Still not sure what I'm bringing along for food -- maybe I'd better bring a six pack of something dark, too, in case Brien gets another chance at bringing the beer. ;-)

Sinsull's got these great glasses with a light in the bottom . . .

I swear, if I didn't have to get ready for a trial I would be seriously tempted to set off right now. I'm getting to know the route pretty well - across the border at Cornwall, east across New York State, going by Dick's Gas, Guns, and Guitars, cross Lake Champlain at Rouse's point, south through Vermont (there's a great B&B in Montpelier with two houses - with animals and without; also an excellent diner for breakfast)and from there an easy run into Portsmouth, and then up the highway to chez Sinsull. Oh well, another time, I guess.

Yard saleing in the morning if I can persuade Kendall that we NEED more stuff so tomorrow afternoon it'll be panic time in the Morse household.

No, Mary, you really DO want me to change. Trust me. And shower first. Really. I don't want to have to sit by myself out in the yard.

Clancy wants to know if Seamus will be attending. He feels that two sets of big brown eyes accomplish more than just one. And he also likes not being the only dog in a house with four cats.

I may have talked two friends into joining us. It's a big maybe, but I will check with them tomorrow AM to see.

Don't know if we'll make it, but you MUST have Fred's yard sale song for Jacqui
Chyahz! Julia
Here 't is,and be sure to do the antiphonal choruses
(Yard Sale! Yard Sale!)

YARD SALE © Fred Gosbee
(To the tune of Gloucestershire Wassail)

Yard sale, yard sale all over the town
Go up in the attic and bring it all down
Put it out on the lawn for people to buy
You can dicker if they say the price is too high

Here's to the people from near and from far
Who pull off the road and stop in our yard
Who stop in our yard for an hour or so
And leave us holding a bunch of their dough

There's a plate in that box that you really should get
It might be the one to complete your good set
You never know where you might find what you seek
When they're all selling junk but you're buying antiques

What is that thing that you've got over there?
I think that I saw one just like it somewhere
Back in the old days when I was a kid
I never could figure out just what it did

I found a guitar with only three strings
A fife and a drum and some other great things
A French horn, a fiddle without any bow
But they just sold the bagpipes an hour ago

Now here is a key without any lock
It might go to this train it might go to that clock
The train's got no track and the clock's got no chime
and I bet I can get either one for a dime

Look at these dresses, they're all really nice
And you never would find them again at this price
The only thing wrong with them that I can see
They're too small for you and they're too big for me.

Now where is the girl with the little cash box
Who'll give us our change for the stuff that we bought
This stuff that we bought but surely won't keep
'Cause we're having a sale of our own just next week

Bed at 3AM and a knock on the door at 7AM, Tami looking for breakfast. I need a nap.

It was the best one yet. Thank you all.

I've been trying to take a nap -- I definitely need more than 4 1/2 hours of sleep. But either the phone rings or I just can't slip into slumber etc. We're supposed to go to another party at a neighbor's in a couple hours, but I'm non-functional with fatigue. But what a wonderful way to get so tired -- staying up til the wee hours singing and laughing with friends. (Oh, and eating and we must have been drinking, too, because that bottle of Bushmills somehow got emptied as did the levels get lowered in the other liquids.)

What an amazing party! And a bunch of songs got trotted out that hadn't been heard before, or at least, not for a long time. AND it was the first time I'd heard Kendall tell "Father Fell Down the Well" in PERSON.

And now I've got to write down (it's not been written down since I "wrote" it back in the mid-60s) my parody of the Beatles' "If I Fell" to send to Jacqui -- is there anything else I'm supposed to send somebody? I'm sure I won't remember any other promises until I listen to the tapes. (Oooo -- pictures AND tapes -- blackmail material, but I do remember promising not to use them as such!)

Such a polite crowd. No one dared to drink the last shot of single malt. I had no trouble taking a nap. Even slept thru a phone call that rang six times.

You were missed Mick. The Bushmill was special just for you but there wouldn't have been enough had you shown up. Nurse your cold and maybe next time.

There will be a lobster boil some time this summer. Watch for a date.

Thanks for not showing up, Mick -- Kendall and I shared the Bushmill's. Polished it off and started in on the single malt.

Didn't go to the party up the hill tonight. Interupted naps got interupted further by the sudden visit of a friend high on the uphill swing of manic of his manic-depressiveness. Much more exhausting than only getting 4 1/2 hours of sleep.

I'm barely functional, but a pre-prandial bath with a good book (and a therapeutic margarita) and a lovely dinner cooked by Curmudgeon has given me enough strength to watch something on video that's short before sleeping for the night.

Still basking in the glow of last night.
