Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: alanabit Date: 24 May 05 - 01:16 PM He is, like all great artists, flawed and not every song he wrote is a classic. It is still true to say that most of us can only dream of writing one song as good as his two hundredth best. He has created new genres and taken songwriting into areas where it had never been before. Happy Birthday and many more to one of the greatest artists of our age. |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: s6k Date: 24 May 05 - 06:18 PM a very fitting line for bob from me, from one of my favourite songs. "i was so much older then, i'm younger than that now" an absolute legend, and as i write this i am listening to "with god on our side" which reaffirms his legendary status even more. the only man to ever come close to bob was bob marley. whens the next album, bob!? happy birthday |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: GUEST,Pat Cooksey. Date: 24 May 05 - 06:53 PM If indeed it is your birthday Robert, then thank you for all that you have done. Remember Jim McClean, Martin Carthy, and so many others who made the Troudador your home in the sixties. I spent my early performing days in Paris, singing your songs in the streets, great times and great songs. |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: GUEST,Allen Date: 25 May 05 - 10:39 AM Oh, what I've heard in the past few years doesn't seem so hot, and some really stinkers of reviews about him live. |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: Steve Latimer Date: 25 May 05 - 10:53 AM Well, I saw him in the eighties and it was terrible, saw him again in 97 and 2000, they were great shows. |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: Little Hawk Date: 25 May 05 - 12:40 PM Yeah, Bob! I was in Ottawa (Canada's capital city) on his birthday, and they were playing his songs in the cafe where I ate with friends, an amazing place with about 50 different varieties of gourmet burgers, including 8 or 10 vegetarian types. Bob Dylan remains the single most remarkable and enduring influence among all modern songwriters. And the tune for the song "Blowin' in the Wind" was based (loosely) on a spiritual liberation song from the days of slavery called "No More Auction Block". Bob can be heard singing "Auction Block" on some tapes from the early 60's. He made the tune a bit more sophisticated, wrote new lyrics around it, and there you have "Blowin' In The Wind". |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: Matt_R Date: 25 May 05 - 01:05 PM Yep, it's his tour with Willie Nelson of the nation's minor league ballparks. |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Bob Dylan From: Steve Latimer Date: 25 May 05 - 09:26 PM That guy Nelson is no slouch either, you haven't heard Willie until you have heard him live. I wish that this tour came closer to Toronto. Enjoy Matt, it should be a great evening. Little Hawk, No More Auction Block is on the Bootleg Series Volume 1-3. One of my favourites on a great collection. It is worth having if only for Blind Willie McTell. Bootleg Series 1-3 |
