After Joan Gallimore in 2003 and Christine Richardson last year (not forgetting Theresa Tooley in 2001), is anyone offering odds on a male-winner this year?

Padge, Any chance of getting Booker there this year?
You forgot to mention that the prizes are fairly (quids) good too, and, the song writer winner sings the winning song at the Main Concert

Look forward to seeing you there .

All the best

Hey up Betsy how you doing, where are you in Mexico or somewhere?

John Booker knows he's always welcome at Saltburn and I ask him every year. He is hale and hearty at Barnsley every Monday. We had Mary Humphries and Anahata last Monday, blooming brilliant!!

How's Vin any upto date news?

Yep I know I forgot ££s waiting for someone to ask and keep the thread going!!

A nice statue of Fred for the winner, how much was last years prize money LOL

Sounds like a con come gimmick to me.

Anyone entering should be given a free ticket and there should be a shortlist drawn up by a panel.

The Maidenhead Folk Club's biennial song contest always throws up a clutch of class songs. Its judged by the audience.

and its free to enter.

Next one March 2007

Good luck to anyone who goes for it.

But ask John Taylor, if you dare!! lol

It's not a con, but you do need a week end ticket for the festival

those who want to come and enter into the spirit of singing and

entertaining in the way that Fred did are welcome to come

The trophy itself has been sculptured by Graeme Ibbeson who among

other things sculptured the famous Morecambe and Wise statue which

stands in Morecambe.

Anyone posessing one of these should feel very honoured indeed.
There is also a cash prize of £100.

Seventeen entrants last year!!

Was feeling good at having got a couple of jobs done today until I saw this thread.
It reminded me that, due to unemployment, I will not be at Saltburn this year. Along with my two eldest I'm gutted and nearly in tears!!
Hope you all enjoy yourselves there.
Bob

The competition has a full set of rules, which basically tries to retain the traditional style element, which Fred would or might have sung

It is not a write em and sing em competition that is more in keeping with the Singer Songwriter competition which Trevor looks after

see above: all details from me phone no above etc

Last years judges included ~ Kate Atkinson (Holmfirth), Hector Christie (Both sides the Tweed) and Deanna Norman (Cleckheaton)
Age is no barrier evidenced by Joan Gallmore's win, see Snuffy above a regular entrant (she is in her 80s and was very very funny and a great performer)

Young and old are more than welcome ( I refuse to judge I have little enough friends !!!)

Ray Padgett

Well I have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Chester Folk Festival and I see the thread has died

Thank goodness the weather has for a change been ok, usually stair rods it down at Spring Bank Holiday!

No doubt others have been to Cleethorpes or Chippenham FFs

Roy Clinging had his Cheshire book launch at the festival

Les Barker's band had em in stitches and Heyfeva, young musicians were absolutley brilliant, how we spawn such brilliant musicians with exceptional stage craft i do not know

Pete Morton has started to grow on me, so to speak

However singing songs in the traditional style is a totally different

matter See thread name above!!

I am looking for judges for the competition, bearing in mind you need 1 to be of sufficient respect in the folky community
2 be there on the Saturday for the duration of the competition
(this is not a 1hr thing!)
3 Be impartial

This is a serious competition and be seen to above criticism

I do not judge

Any one interested ( I and Saltburn FF must approve )
Ray

NB All entrants must have a valid weekend ticket (any queries to John Taylor re qualifications to enter please)
