JudyD and myself are planning to attend. It's been at least 4 years since we were last there. The setting can't be beat, a beautiful harbor town with some great places to eat and drink.
Each day there are at least 3 things going on at once: the wharf, the gazebo, the Opera House. In the evening everything is pulled together under a huge tent on Blockhouse Hill.

We plan to have a good time. I understand Tanglefoot is expected to be there, among other great acts.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Thanks, I think Folk Harbour is one of the best and friendliest festivals in Canada in many ways...certainly a great town to visit for a few days as well, and really nice venues too. I'm fortunate enough to live there year-round.

Lunenburg and area has suffered torrential rain and severe flooding for the past few days. Hopefully the worst has past!

Tanglefoot and Artisan are among the lineup. Connie Kaldor and James Gordon as well. Have a look at their web-site:

Bump !

Just as a helpful reminder (I'm really not a spammer, I just love the festival) to any thinking of coming to the festival, today and tomorrow are the last chances for the really low bargain price on full 4 day festival passes. Yikes, just remembered myself,I have to get over and buy one today !
Phone orders with plastic are fine by the way..

Hello Folks,

This is the 20th year. I get a chance to return to the stage and play with the Starb'ard Side lads. Hard to imagine it's been ten years since I've made it to the festival. The Lunenburg experience is awesome. If you have the chance don't miss it!

Any of you mudcatters who make it please look me up over the weekend.

It really will be great to see Starb'ard Side on deck again, and from what I'm hearing around Lunenburg, many folks are really looking forward to it.
Can hardly wait !

Mr. Chance,

They have a special show on Thursday. A trip down memory lane as I understand. Videos and pictures from the past. I can't wait myself. We had many great times there during the first ten years.

Jim

The area is a great tourist destination in addition to the Festival, which is a great time. Lots of things to see and to do.

The Fisheries Museum is always worth a tour. If you enjoy antique shops, you'll find many in Lunenburg. But we also enjoy nosing around the neighboring towns of Blue Rock and Mahone Bay.

Avoid Peggys Cove. Unfortunately it's become an extreme example of how a fishing village can be overwhelmed by the tourist industry. Reminds me of what happened years ago to our quiet fishing village of Boothbay Harbor in Maine.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Yup. If you like antiques, bring lots of green. And the scenery! Load up on film (and whatever goes in them moving picture gadgets, I suppose), because the price of film at the corner store would scare the b'jeepers outta ya.

Charley... you musy have felt a bit at home in Blue Rocks. Their accent is as close to the Maine shore accent as any I have heard.

Make sure you get a boat tour around the islands. Beautiful.

I spent a fair bit of time in the area when I was dating a pretty young lass from Lunenburg oh so many years ago. Peggy Ann **** was her name. Minds me of what Charley said - stay away from Peggy's Cove. But, if you do go, heed the signs. Every year, some asshole tourist(s) decides to show off by going beyond the signs and the North Atlantic obliges the stupidity. And it costs the taxpayers a lot of money to recover the body... or remains.

Hmmm, lots of replies, lots of interest...perhaps a short mini Mudcatter meeting at Folk Harbour might be a great idea ?...and fun ?
I'm a rather new signed in member, but I've been reading the Mudcat for a long time.

Only a week until we start our leisurely trek up the coast to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia - the festival starts Thursday evening, August 4th, but we like to do the drive in two parts and arrive somewhat rested for the late-night sings. The lineup for the 2005 Folk Harbour Festival looks wonderful - Tanglefoot, Artisan (in one of their final North American appearances, Connie Kaldor, Lennie Gallant, James Gordon, our old friend Vince Morash with his new group Crossections and way too many other wonderful folks to list here.

They even have what looks to me like a pretty complete copy of the program available on line. As someone who does web design, I'm always impressed with what a good job they do and how much information they make available!

Charley and I will be there Thursday afternoon - and I might even wear my new Mudcat T-shirt once or twice over the weekend.

Who else is coming, and when are you arriving?

JudyB

I love Lunenberg and Nova Scotia/Cape Breton in general and we have been twice. Would love to catch the festival again but sadly not this year.

Peace

It is a wonderful festival, and we've enjoyed side trips to other parts of Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is great! Even though we're practically next door (in Maine), we only make it every couple of years.

Maybe we'll see you there in a couple of years!

JudyB...
We'll keep watching for your Mudcat T-shirt in Lunenburg, and will say hello if we see you...
We're headed from home (Lunenburg) to Maine for a couple of weeks of music shortly after Folk Harbour is over....Meadowlark Folk Music Camp in Washington is one of our destinations.

Well, we're off to Nova Scotia by noon tomorrow from Richmond, Maine. We'll probably only make it to Eastport where we'll find some interesting place to dine and some particle board motel to stay at. Then it's off to Pictou for the evening where we'll stay at the old Customs House Inn (regaled in a Tanglefoot song) and nose about town in the morning. Then off to Lunenburg for the Thursday evening concert. What fun!

If there are other Mudcatters around, in addition to Slim Chance, we'd love to know. We may wear our new Mudcat T-shirts but no guarantee.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
