Subject: RE: Lyr Req: alaska Mike Lyrics From: GUEST,MMario Date: 27 May 05 - 10:54 AM well duh! of course I did! But I'm also in a time crunch as I want to try and sing this tomorrow (hopefully "off-book") but still need my crutch. And I'd rather memorize his lyrics corrrectly rather then try and fudge a version together and then have it memorized wrong. |

Subject: Lyr Add: BACK IN THE CLYDESDALE (Mike Campbell) From: Alaska Mike Date: 28 May 05 - 12:16 AM Here are the official, copyrighted lyrics for your review. BACK IN THE CLYDESDALE By Mike Campbell © 2004 I went to the bar after working all day And ordered a dark Guinness Beer, But the Yuppies were chatting so thick on their cell phones, I guess the barman did not hear. He brought out a glass and a tallboy of Bud, And set them down in front of me. I coughed and I sputtered in pure disbelief And sang out this chorus with glee: CHORUS: Put that Budweiser back in the Clydesdale. It's not the right flavor for me. The color's all wrong and there's not enough foam, And it's got all the kick of weak tea. Now pour me a pint of that good Guinness Stout, With color you cannot see through. Put that Budweiser back in the Clydesdale, boys, And pour me a beer that is true. Then the waitress came by when I'd finished my first one, An angry young woman named Jill. She snatched up my empty without even looking, And went off to find a refill. Then she brought back a glass of some pale liquid garbage, And said, "Here's the Bud you asked for." Well, I gave her a glare that would knock down a horse, And sang out this chorus once more: Chorus So if ever you're seeking a beer with good flavor To finish your day or your meal, If they serve you a Miller's, a Coors, or a Bud, Or some other brand that ain't real, If the "King of Beers" is the only selection, I hope that you'll answer like this: "Put that Budweiser back in the Clydesdale, boys. I won't drink twelve ounces of (that lousy beer)." Chorus |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: GUEST Date: 12 Sep 05 - 02:37 AM Does anybody have guitar chords, or a sound file on this? We laughed a lot listening to Seamus Kennedy sing it in Estes Park this morning, but the tune has gone right out of my head. TIA |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: Leadfingers Date: 12 Sep 05 - 10:46 AM Why not buy mikes CD Mars Outback from Camsco and earn a few pennies for The Cat ?? Not just back in the Clydesdale , but twelve others of Mikes excellent songs !! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: Alaska Mike Date: 12 Sep 05 - 12:28 PM The song was a hit here in Anchorage over the weekend too. Thanks for the plug Terry, but CAMSC0 doesn't have any of my CDs. Orders can be made at my website or you can also order the CD from CD Baby. I'm glad so many of you are enjoying my song. I'm trying to find an address for Guinness so I can send them a copy of the CD, but I haven't been able to find the correct address. Emails to Guinness.com have not resulted in any help. Maybe they'll be interested in sponsoring some of my travel. Best wishes, Mike |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: GUEST Date: 12 Sep 05 - 12:31 PM Thanks Leadfingers, I didn't know he had recorded it as well. Seamus said he is going to do it on his new CD, but that doesn't come out until December. I couldn't find it on the Camsco web site, but I left a message for Dick to see about getting it. Thanks again. BTW, MMario, 1602? How old is this song anyway? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: MMario Date: 12 Sep 05 - 12:47 PM The earliest I've sung it was 1585 - but rumour hath it it dates back to 1066 (I should know - I spread the rumour meself!) Other then that - Mike wrote it last October, I think... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: GUEST Date: 12 Sep 05 - 03:36 PM What is this "Clydesdale" ? or is this an inference that the offered "drink" was produced by one of these noble beasts? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: MMario Date: 12 Sep 05 - 03:40 PM Whyever would someone imply that? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: Leadfingers Date: 12 Sep 05 - 04:20 PM As a man who's been appreciating properly brewed Bitter Beer for more than forty years , the idea that an American beer could be described as horse piss doesnt surprise me in the least ! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: alanabit Date: 06 Oct 05 - 11:32 AM Let me echo Leadfinger's sentiments and recommend Mike's CD "Mars Outbeck". It has another twelve good songs on it. Among them is the excellent "First Kill". Mike has the knack of telling stories simply and he has a quirky sense of humour, particularly evident on "Ididtarod", which pokes fun at the science of cloning. I expect there are plenty of Alaskans, who spend their long winter evenings watching crap TV and computer games. However, I like to imagine that at least a few are spending the evenings with this affable sounding man, drinking a pint and exchanging a few tall tales. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 06 Oct 05 - 03:33 PM Yes, I've got it coming out on my new CD - Party Pieces- early in December; it can be ordered from CDBaby too. Alaska Mike, buddy, I don't know about you, but we may want to prepare for some litigation from Anheuser-Busch! Maybe we could get Guinness to cover our legal costs.....? Still, no such thing as bad publicity, eh? Best of luck with your wonderful album, Mike, and thanks for letting me record 'Clydesdale.' Seamus |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska M From: Alaska Mike Date: 07 Oct 05 - 12:02 AM Litigation, eh? Well they ain't going to get much out of me. I'm a folk singer. By the way, I tried to contact Guinness for an address to send them a CD, but they hinted that they don't accept unsolicited music and might have some litigation for me themselves. I think I'm screwed. Mike |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 07 Oct 05 - 11:53 AM Mike, Guinness is now owned by a multinational corporation called Diagio, I believe, and they're not the little hometown Dublin brewery they once were. However, as regards litigation, I think you've nothing to worry about. The adverse publicity from suing a poor folksinger probably wouldn't do them any good. But that contradicts what I said above about no bad publicity! OK, bad publicity for them, good publicity for you. How the hell are they gonna get to you way up in Alaska, anyway? Seamus |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: MMario Date: 08 May 07 - 09:41 AM just an FYI; This was also very popular with the court of Henry VIII and the Court of Oberon this weekend in 1540. The commoners seemed to like it as well. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: MMario Date: 27 Sep 07 - 09:02 AM and I keep spreading the song around. Sang it for a bunch of Mercenaries in Revel Grove on Saturday; and taught it to some members of the Queen's Guards in the Shire of Mt. Hope on Sunday. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Back in the Clydesdale (from Alaska Mike) From: GUEST Date: 09 Oct 13 - 12:21 PM 'What is this "Clydesdale" ? or is this an inference that the offered "drink" was produced by one of these noble beasts?' I'd guess it refers to Budweiser beer commercials in which Clydesdale horses are used as part of the selling mechanism. The Budweiser Clydesdales feature prominently in Super Bowl commercials and State Fairs, etc. Budweiser breeds their own horses. Much about the program on YouTube. |
