Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Patricia the Stipper From: Charmion Date: 21 Jun 05 - 04:18 PM Oh, no -- it was that little Irishman, what's his name -- Chris de Burgh. "Patricia the Stripper" was on his first album. |
Subject: Lyr Add: PATRICIA THE STRIPPER (Chris de Burgh) From: Charmion Date: 21 Jun 05 - 04:27 PM It was on "Spanish Train and Other Stories", and here are the lyrics from the official Chris de Burgh website. PATRICIA THE STRIPPER by Chris de Burgh (1975) Dennis is a menace, with his "Anyone for tennis?" And he'd beseech me to come keep the score. And Maude said, "Oh Lord, I'm so terribly bored!" I really can't stand it anymore ... I'm going ... out to dinner with a gorgeous singer, To a little place I know down by the quay. Her name is Patricia -- she calls herself Delicia -- And the reason isn't very hard to see. She said, God made her a sinner just to keep those fat men thinner As they tumble down in heaps before her feet. They hang around in groups Like battle-weary troops, One can often see the queue right down the street. Because Patricia, or "Delicia", not only is a singer She also removes all her clothing -- For Patricia is the best stripper in town! And with a swing of her hips she started to strip, To tremendous applause she took off her drawers, And with a lick of her lips she undid all her clips, Threw it all in the air and everyone stared And as the last piece of clothing fell to the floor, The police were banging on the door -- On a Saturday night in 1924. Take it away boys... Well, Patricia was arrested, and everyone detested The terrible manner in which she was exposed Later on in court, where everyone thought A summer's run in jail would be proposed. But the judge said, "Patricia, Or may I say Delicia, the facts of this case lie before me (knock, knock, knock) Case dismissed! This girl was in her working clothes! And with a swing of her hips she started to strip, To tremendous applause she took off her drawers, And with a lick of her lips she undid all her clips, Threw it all in the air and everyone stared And as the last piece of clothing fell to the floor, The police were yelling out for more -- On a Saturday night in 1924. |
Subject: ADDPOP: Patricia the Stripper From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jun 05 - 04:27 PM I found the song under "Stipper," but it's apparently "Patricia the Stripper." As far as I can determine, the song was written and recorded by Chris de Burgh. Clever lyrics. Who's Chris de Burgh? -Joe Offer- Charmion beat me to it, so I'll delete the lyrics I found at the same site. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Patricia the Stripper (Stipper?) From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Jun 05 - 05:02 AM It should go under the 'Worst rhyme' thread - that horrible 'romaance' rhymed with 'dahnce'.... puts my teeth on edge just thinking of it..... And bugger me if it didn't crop up on the radio last night, after a successful year of not hearing it! LTS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Patricia the Stripper (Stipper?) From: Greyeyes Date: 22 Jun 05 - 06:47 AM "Spanish Train" was one of my favoutire albums when I was about 16. Full of songs which tell stories, with great tunes. He's been "written-out" for many years now, since long before Lady in Red. |
