It has to be said.

I was talking to a sound man about the festival earlier, who said that they don't pay many of them anything. Despite the fact the minimum wage is a meagre £4.85 ph (UK). They get around this, through a self employment loophole

They charge £125 for the weekend ticket. Much more then any other festival in UK.

I see a fair few protest/socialist singers there on the bill. I suggest they boycott Mean Fiddler events, the company who organise the gig.

Make exploitation and poverty history.

In fairness to Mean Fiddler, they did provide the Forum venue and all staffing free of charge for Ceilidh Aid for tsunami relief last April. So they can't be all that bad. If the sound engineers are self-employed, it's surely up to them to decide under what terms they will or won't work. They're not going to be fired for turning down the job, are they?

Hi Guest

They are a bona fida company. That's the only fairness due.

Let's not pretend they are a charity or something set up to make the world a better place.

They can operate on their own terms, as is their right in law, with all their sponsorship from multi-national corporations.

It pisses me off though, to see so called protest/radical singers perform there. I can't take their words seriously again.

Regrettably lots of people exploit the loopholes around the minimum wage and the UK government seems to show no enthusiasm for blocking them. Perhpas Brussels might be persuaded to do something useful.

Try the "unsigned bands" angle.

Entry Fee £10. 26,000 entrants.

Melvin Benn is a money grubbing wanker.

It's about money not music.

Mean Fiddler's contract at Glastonbury is apparently finished now. Be interesting if Michael Eavis renegotiates, and on what terms.

That probably explains why Michael Eavis announced that this year's would be the last, while one band I know was already discussing a booking for next year!

Won't be a 2006 but a 2007 is already planned I understand.

Peace

moo

P.S. The highlight for me was the snatchit of Steve Earle doing "Rich Man's War" acoustically at the back of the BBC's "garden".
