Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: oldhippie Date: 05 Mar 09 - 08:27 PM Charley Noble - ask and you shall receive.... Sung to the tune of "My Bologna Has a First Name" --copyright held by Oscar Mayer, probably. Oh, the wombat has just one name, W-O-M-B-A-T; Oh, the wombat has just one name, W-O-M-B-A-T. Oh, I'd never bake a wombat pie Or eat a wombat melt on rye, 'Cause wombats were befriended by R-O-S-S-E-T-T-I. |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: GUEST,Dani Date: 05 Mar 09 - 07:53 AM OK, I cannot vouch for the translation, but this is a product of the Latin class at my daughter's school, and she gave me a t-shirt with "llama, llam(a), anas" on it: "Huc a llam(a) illuc a llama Et altera parva llam(a) Pellosa llam(a) iocosa llama Llama, llam(a) anas! Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: semi-submersible Date: 04 Mar 09 - 08:23 PM Thank you! Thank you! The verse does use the tune of "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General." Does it depart from this melody later in the verse, or just alter its timing? I wish I had good enough melody-memory to tell how much of one tune matches another without seeing them on paper. I can't place the refrain (the "treehouse"/"told now" part) either. I don't think it's the "Can-Can" but it always reminds me of it. Could it be another Sullivan melody? Dani: We're interested. Major-General, or Llama Song? (Is there a Latin word for llama??) |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: GUEST,Dani Date: 04 Mar 09 - 07:49 PM LOVE this song. I have it some of it in Latin, if you're interested. Dani |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: GUEST,me, again Date: 04 Mar 09 - 05:58 PM oops, From "Pirates of Penzance" written the next year(still Gilbert and Sullivan) and to correct my poor hearing "I am the very model of a modern Major-General, " or simply uses part of the "patter song's" tune |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: GUEST,me Date: 04 Mar 09 - 05:47 PM The tune is from the comedic opera "HMS Pinafore" "I am the very model of a modern naval gentleman..." |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: Joe_F Date: 11 Sep 08 - 08:07 PM There once was a gaucho named Bruno Who said, "About sex, this I do know: Women are fine, Sheep are divine, But llamas are numero uno." |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: SINSULL Date: 11 Sep 08 - 03:07 PM I suspect that Kendall does not end each line with "duck". |

Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: Tannywheeler Date: 02 Jul 05 - 09:34 AM Oh, Lady Jean-- "...And I will bet a silk pajama There isn't any three L lama*. *The author's attention has been drawn to a type of conflagration called a three-alarmer. Pooh." The asterisk and footnote are part of the poem. Ogder Nash rules!! Have you read the one about the Cyprus citrus surplus? And finding April in his arms? My daughter was born in April--also her husband and their son. She knew she'd found the right midwife to help her through the pregnancy when she learned the young woman's name was--give up?--APRIL!!!!!! This one always gets to me. Tw |

Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 02 Jul 05 - 07:24 AM I have a distinct impression that the tune is familar, or similar to something I have struck before. |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 30 Jun 05 - 07:35 AM LadyJean I was aware of Ogden Nash. I doubted that just use of the word 'llama' is sufficient to claim an 'origin' though. |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: semi-submersible Date: 30 Jun 05 - 06:20 AM Yeah, but what is that tune (in the video)? |

Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: Le Scaramouche Date: 30 Jun 05 - 03:50 AM Oh, I thought this was going to be the Python psuedo-flamenco song. |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Llama Song From: LadyJean Date: 30 Jun 05 - 01:26 AM From the sublime Odgen Nash, of course: A one L lama, he's a priest. A two L llama, he's a beast. But I will bet a silk pajama, There's no such thing as a three L lama. Though some of his readers did suggest that there was a conflagration known as a three L lama. (Three alarmer.) |
Subject: Origins: The Llama Song From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 30 Jun 05 - 01:17 AM I am sure this reminds me of something I heard as a kid. Currently it is all over the web - on every blog, etc, so tracing much about it is a chore. The alleged author name seems highly suspicious... It is of course now part of the Fooles Troupe Choir repetoire... The Llama Song by Burton Earny Here's a llama, there's a llama, And a another little llama, Fuzzy llama, funny llama, Llama llama duck! Llama llama, cheesecake llama, Tablet brick, potato llama, Llama llama, mushroom llama, Llama llama duck! I was once a treehouse, I lived in a cake, But I never saw the way, The orange slayed the rake. I was only three years dead, But it told a tale, And now listen little child, To the safety rail. Did you ever see a llama, Kiss a llama on the llama, Llama's llama, tastes of llama, Llama llama duck! Half a llama, twice the llama, Not a llama, farmer llama, Llama in a car, alarm a llama, Llama llama duck! Is that how it's told now? Is it all so old? is it made of lemon juice? Doorknob ankle cold. Now my song is getting thin, I've run out of luck. Time for me to retire now, And become a duck! Video is at http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama.php |
