Subject: Santos Martinez 650 Guitar From: s6k Date: 30 Jun 05 - 09:45 AM has anyone had a go on this guitar or owns one? the next purchase i make will be a nylon acoustic guitar, and i was told this is the bees knees, and plays like a guitar twice the price (its £330) it has a pickup in it and what not and lots of fiddly things, but i was told its just brilliant and you can set the sound to your liking etc, and the playability is amazing. i will try to get to Antones in hull soon and play it myself, but has anyone else been involved with one ? |

Subject: RE: Santos Martinez 650 Guitar From: s6k Date: 01 Nov 05 - 09:57 PM well, I have ordered it... its £320 but we know the manager of Big Rock, and he got us it for £280 which saves on postage I'd have to pay from elsewhere too. He rang me today to say they received it this morning... so I will pick it up sometime in the week, got a hardcase thrown in too I will let you know what its like |
Subject: RE: Santos Martinez 650 Guitar From: s6k Date: 05 Nov 05 - 08:11 PM Picked it up today.... well my old man did, got it home... picked it up... HUGE crack down the back of it!!!! could actually see inside through the split! So, its going back and theyve ordered another... sigh... still, I played it, and it really is amazing... if you were even thinking of buying a nylon stringed guitar... seriously go for this one... it sounds so nice and feels great too, playability is out of this world.... like I said we got it down to 280, because we know the manager, but it was worth every penny (apart from the crack.. LOL!) i havent plugged it in yet, and will probably take it back tomorrow, so will have to wait yet again until they get a new one... hopefully with no crack!!!! |
Subject: RE: Santos Martinez 650 Guitar From: Mooh Date: 06 Nov 05 - 02:58 PM It appears that the brand is mostly entry level instruments except the top end of the line which is a solid wood top and back instrument. Many come with a pickup and that could be the brand's purpose, amplified nylon strung instruments. I'm interested in how this turns out. There are some major deals in inexpensive "classicals", like the Godins I've used. Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: Santos Martinez 650 Guitar From: Don Firth Date: 06 Nov 05 - 03:20 PM One of my students traded her steel-string apple-crate Stella in on an Alvarez AC60S classic (ordered on-line form Music 123 for well below list price—she paid something like $270 U. S. for it). Solid wood red cedar soundboard, laminated mahogany back and sides. Everything checked out right out of the packing crate. Good action, intonation right on (compensated bridge, for Pete's sake!), a loud, warm tone, and good balance between bass and treble. Excellent sound and playability. Fantastic instrument for the money, even if it had cost three or four times as much. I've owned a few high-priced classics in my time (a Vincente Tatay, a 1964 José Ramirez, a couple by Arcangel Fernadez, a José Oribé—still have the Oribé classic and the Fernadez flamenco), but if need be, I could be well contented with that Alvarez. Plays well, sounds great. What more could one want? Don Firth |
