Subject: Live8 London. No booze for the plebs

It is and isn't music related, so not sure if it goes downstairs.

Apparently Live8 in London has two tiers of tickets. One for the VIP/corporate hospitality ticket holders and one for the plebs. That is your ordinary Joe Public.

Alcohol is banned, unless you hold a VIP ticket. You get nicer toilets as well.

Hardly in the spirit of an event that purports to make poverty history.

I suppose it will kick start a few Rock star careers though.

No booze is probably a good idea, but it should apply to all equally. maybe they'll bring in something 'last minute' {just like they did the Eden Project gig}, specially for the ganja smokers ;~)
Giok

Cal me a cynic, but after reading some of the artists on the original "Do they Know it's Xmas" recording boasting how they were all "off their face" when recording it, I felt if they had all donated a sum equivalent to their annual spending on illegal drugs, they could have raised a significant extra sum. I won't go into the pressure on poor agricultural communities to abandon even subsistence farming in order to grow the makings for drugs which bring them in a little more but lead to all the other problems we know so well. The conspicuous consumption of luxuries by people like Elton John who seem unable to make the link with real poverty elsewhere....
Sorry I won't rant any further...

Just seen Elton John on BBC, saying he arrived by helicopter.

Africa has its own rich musical tradition. My brother lives there and tells me everyone sings.

Can't see how this will end poverty, when they can't even engage the African people in such an event.
