Subject: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: alanabit Date: 05 Jul 05 - 02:11 AM According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington DC was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12 year old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Several memos were posted about this, without effect. Finally, the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it was to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how hard it was. Under careful instructions, the man took out a long-handled squeegee, solemnly dipped it in the nearest toilet bowl, and scrubbed the mirror. There was complete silence in the room. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are Teachers and there are Educators. |

Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: freda underhill Date: 05 Jul 05 - 04:27 AM very clever - I agree with Bob Geldorf - teen magazines are teaching young girls to make themselves into sex objects by muching around with this stuff. good story, alan. freda |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: Tam the man Date: 05 Jul 05 - 02:01 PM how can you that 12 year old girls wearing lipstick is funny, think about all the 12 year olds and younger that have been sexually abused, by dressing up to look older. Funny now! |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: GUEST,MMario Date: 05 Jul 05 - 02:08 PM another one who doesn't find the story funny - not only because there is no reason for 12 year olds to be wearing lipstick on a daily basis - but because it shows their lack of repects for public property, local authority and the people who have to clean up after them! |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: GUEST Date: 05 Jul 05 - 06:51 PM The world has changed. Twelve year olds wearing lipstick does sound very shock/horror. But the reality is probably a lot less sinister. Girly comics nowadays all have enticing little 'free' gifts , to make them irresistable to our modern girlies. Lipstick is often amongst the feebies. It looks the part, but when it goes on it is just shimmery vaseline looking gunk. Not alluring in any way. We used red sweets to 'lip stick' ourselves 30 years ago. No harm done. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: GUEST,Ghettoblaster Date: 05 Jul 05 - 07:06 PM Young girls trying to look older is to my mind far less sinister than soceital pressure on mature women to look pre-pubertal. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Jul 05 - 11:05 PM I think teaching twelve-year-old girls how to use a dipstick is an excellent idea. Some would say it's silly because they won't even be able to get learners' permits for three more years, but it's never too early to learn good vehicle maintenance. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: alanabit Date: 06 Jul 05 - 01:37 AM Personally, I am appalled that women of any age are persuaded that smearing pore blocking substances on their faces makes them more attractive. I agree with every word said about the sexualistion of children. I find it vile and disgusting. I have a young daughter and I am all too aware that huge amounts of money are invested in trying to sell her crap like this. I did find the story funny though! |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: John MacKenzie Date: 06 Jul 05 - 04:19 AM Reminded me for no good reason of lines from my favourite book/play. Under Milk Wood...........Dylan Thomas NARRATOR Down in the dusking town, Mae Rose-Cottage, still lying in clover, listening to the nannygoats chew, draws circles of lipstick round her nipples. MAE ROSE-COTTAGE I'm fast. I'm a bad lot. God will strike me dead. I'm seventeen. I'll go to hell! Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Jul 05 - 05:21 AM Rouge was used on nipples long it was used on faces. The Romans used pigments for that purpose, and so probably, did the Ancient Egyptians. In France and Britain, 1790-1812, the fashion was for diaphanous gowns inspired by ancient Greek and Roman costume, that left very little to the imagination. Underwear was non-existant and nipples were rouged to make them more noticable under high waisted, low cut gowns. Muslin and lawn became popular as a dress fabric, rather than wool and linen, and lighter cottons were becoming available. LTS Purveyor of useless facts and information. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: freda underhill Date: 06 Jul 05 - 09:30 AM speaking of smearing pore blocking substances, I use Dr Hauschka lipsticks which are made of sensible things like carrot, rose petals, almond extract, jojoba oil and selected plant waxes... A full list of ingredienst follows: Castor (Ricinus communis) Oil, Rose (Rosa canina) Hip Extract, Jojoba (Buxus chinensis) Oil, Lanolin, Carrot (Daucus carota) Extract, Candelilla Wax (Candelilla Cera), Shea (Butyrospermum parkii) Butter, Beeswax (Cera flava), Carnauba (Carnauba cerifera) Wax, Rose (Rosa gallica) Petal Extract, Sweet Almond (Prunus dulcis) Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Anthyllis vulneraria Extract, Rice (Oryza sativa) Germ Oil, Rose (Rosa gallica) Wax, Jojoba (Buxus chinensis) Wax, Fragrance (essential oil), Lecithin [May Contain: +/- Mica, Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)] So much better than lipsticks containing potential cancer-causing ingredients such as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and sodium saccharin, as well as artificial colors including D&C Orange 5, D&C Orange 17, D&C Red 9, D&C Red 19, FD&C Blue 1, FD&C Yellow, and FD&C Yellow 6; some artificial colors may be slightly carcinogenic, contain carcinogenic impurities in some batches, and, as a group, they are simply not part of a fully natural cosmetic product. What's more, contact dermatitis and irritation can also be caused by cosmetic pigments such as artificial colors. Dyes most likely to cause irritation include: D&C Orange 5; D&C Red 21; and D&C Red 27. Synthetic fragrances and lanolin may also cause allergies and irritation.. freda (licking her lips) |

Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Jul 05 - 10:42 AM This is not a modern phenomenon. I can remember using my mother's makeup when I was in my early teens, as did many of my peers. Children have always wanted to grow up too fast, only difference now is that commercial interests have latched onto the fact in a bigger way. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 06 Jul 05 - 11:43 AM The story about the schoolgirls vs the janitor has a certain punch, but it can't be true. One blots lipstick by pulling the lips in and pressing them against something absorbent. Kissing the mirror just isn't going to work. Not to mention that the wet, soapy sinks are probably in the way. Just another skirmish in the war between the men and the women. :) Parents, if you don't want your girls to grow up too fast (I agree with that wish) you should do two things. 1. Let them know they are valuable the way they are. Consider TV, movies, and newspapers. Do you ever see girls in them, other than as victims? Hardly ever. Girls today are getting the message that they don't count at all until they get old enough to be sexy. Families need to counteract that. 2. Feed them sensibly. Puberty starts when a girl weighs about 100 pounds. (There are other determinants, but I forget what they are exactly.) If your daughter gets big faster from fattening foods, then she is going to mature faster. If her weight gets ahead of her intellect, then there will be trouble. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: harpgirl Date: 06 Jul 05 - 11:53 AM You can have my lipstick when you pry it from my cold dead hands. |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: Firecat Date: 06 Jul 05 - 11:59 AM I wore lipstick when I was 12, but only on special occasions. My friend never wears any form of makeup. I do worry when I hear about kids wearing it, but I think that I'm not in a position to say anything. It's up to the parents to check (Mum actually did my makeup for me the first few times I tried to apply it!). |
Subject: RE: BS: 12 year olds and lipstick.... From: susu Date: 06 Jul 05 - 12:29 PM Fredas lipstick contains... Titanium Dioxide a main ingredient in Anti-perspirant. One of the main manufacturing companies is in Norway and is called Kronos (from Greek mythology he was a Titan and a very sick puppy I might add!) Titan is the base name from which Titanium was created. It is also being tested as a catalyst to produce hydrogen fuel from sunlight by helping to spilt water with the use of a titanium oxide ceramic, similar to a car's catalytic converter. And then there is the coating of many materials and as a pigment and thickener in many products from paper, paints, ink, plastics, foods and even toothpaste, which DuPont boasts about. Susu I too have a plethora of useless knowledge. |
