The individuals:

Helen Marsh plays accordion, keyboard and sings harmonies. Classically trained from a very young girl, Helen brings a stylish accompaniment to the band sound. Her embellishments on keyboard are often subtle and atmospheric, while her accordion tunes lead songs into new directions. She is a musical perfectionist who is always looking to improve her input into songs and helps rhyzome songs develop with every performance. She has joined Graham in many musical projects over the last 10 years and has contributed to all of his recordings in that time.

Graham Peebles is a workaholic musician and singer whose recorded work is a testimony to his prolific song-writing. His background of performing in pubs and clubs for decades has resulted in his dedication to performance. He is also committed to learn at least one new stringed instrument every year. Graham's songs are heavily influenced by the English tradition and often feature an historic theme or story. He uses acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica and slide guitar in performance and possesses a gritty powerful voice, rooted in his native Black Country.

Barry Hunt's most notable attribute is his prevalence to play right-handed guitars upside down which has a tendency to confuse most other musicians. He has been doing it in public since 1974 and has developed a unique approach to all of the instruments he plays, including guitars and bouzouki. Barry also is a busy songwriter specialising in gentle ballads and foot-stomping anthems, and everything in between. Historically, his musical projects have included blues, country, r 'n' b, rock and folk roots, varying from the smallest club up to the biggest festivals.

The band:

rhyzome have been enjoying their current collaboration since June 2004, and have just released their first CD 'Mayday'. This portrays an accurate impression of how the band performs in concert and ensure an entertaining mix for any audience.
The music can be hard-hitting, joyous, subtle, energetic, thought-provoking while moving through a plethora of styles to include traditional, contemporary, blues, world and roots music.
rhyzome look forward to playing wherever their music takes them and making friends in all types of venues along the way.

Barry being only one of them Rhyzome blackcountryites :-) Good chance for the audience to learn one of the oldest dialects in England.

I forgot to warn him about the mudcat hugs. I wonder how many mudcatters will be there next Friday? I hope nobody crushes him with the mudcat hug otherwise he might not be fit to sing and play his many instruments. :-)

I offered to buy him a capo but the look he shot me sort of look that told me what to do with it. lol

Villan: I think we're intending to drive back but thanks for the offer anyway. I have to drive over to Boston the following day.

Black country born, black country bred,
Strong in the arm, some say weak in the 'ead.

etc, blah, blah etc!

Of course, I was born in Staffordshire, so it doon't apply, methinks!

I think the road works between Middle Rasen and West Rasen may have been completed, or at least you can get through now.
If not you will need to take the route mentioned earlier in this thread.

I would personally like to thanks all the artists who performed tonight and the lovely audience.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rhyzome and I hope they grace Lincolnshire again soon. I hope they have a good journey home to the Midlands.

John Blanks, Paul Dickinson & Angela King, Steve Jackson and Mick Pearce all contributed to make it an excellent evening once again.
I also hope all of you have a safe journey home.

Thanks one and all.

Les

Well Les, I got in at 01.45am, but the others would probably be home around 2.30am - that's about what we expected, so no probs!!

Thanks for your words and efforts on the night, and we thoroughly enjoyed playing over in Lincs, and meeting and hearing other musos, who we enjoyed.

If any of the other organisers present on the night would like to consider booking, we'd be happy to come over, and they can contact me on

Barry's email

All the very best
