Mayes' pub,at the junction of Nth. Frederick St. and Dorset St. North end of O'Connell St., the main drag, if you're not familiar with Dublin. That sid, it's not on during July and AUgust - starts back first weekend September. Website (not always up to date) is at www.goilin.com (I think!!)

Just to add that when they do meet it starts about 9.45pm I think they advertise as "9.30 Irish Time!". Managed to be in Dublin this year before their July August break and got to the club for the first time, having met some of the regulars at Sidmouth, the National and Musical Traditions club in the past.

An excellent evening and well worth a visit if your over there on a Friday.

In fact fares are so cheap it's worth a visit just to go to the club. If you're googling for information remember it's spelt goilin.

I love the following quoted from their web site:

As our Motto says: "there is no standard set", not in the singing anyway. We set a very high standard in listening.   The rule of the club is: if someone is singing, reciting or performing in any way, total attention is given to the performance. Experience over the years has taught us that it does't work any other way.

In case this thread is picked up again - the Goleen currently meets in The Teachers Club on Parnell Square in Dublin. Very close to the Mayes Pub venue, and easy to find.

The Goilín has a web-site with all the information posted up, though it might be worth checking if the current bad spell persists - I seem to remember that Dubs are a bit nesh when it comes to bad weather!!

Martin, who the hell is Jim Carroll? Is he that beardy fell that hangs around with the neshers from West Clare? Never trusted that fella, he'll be getting the cold shoulder if he ever shows up at the Góilín, shure he's a bit dischlek, dyclestic, dieclasty, he not a great speller hissell.

Fergus

It also helps in looking for it on Google if you give it it's full title ... An Goilin club... and the website is here

Still hoping to go myself some day before too long!

Surreysinger

You're quite right, of course - Goilín is the correct spelling and is used in the web address. Goleen is frequently used in practice.

p.s. a hunt through the photos on www.goilin.com shows a few Mudcatters...

We were on our best behaviour and had a most excellent time, so thank you to all who were there last Friday - we couldn't have been made more welcome and we will be back. There was some great singing and some wonderful songs. We're already planning our return trip.

Thanks again

Tracy and Kathy

Glad you enjoyed yourselves. A nice night added to by our guests from over the water. I counted 7 Child Ballads, including two versions of #20.
