They seem to be keeping it a bit quiet, but the BBC have put a folk show on-line.
Go to BBC Radio Shropshire, look for the button marked 'Listen Live'. The BBC Radio Player opens and you can see 'Sunday Folk' there. It seems to be there for 7 days, then it's replaced by the current one - about standard for the BBC.
There's a live set and an interview from Cloudstreet on now.

I haven't noted this for a long time, but The Dick Spottswood, AKA The Obsolete Music Hour is done live on WAMU, (Wahington DC) every Sunday, but it is also archived for a week, so you can listen anytime to a very eclectic mix of folk, Old Timey, Blues, World Music, and things too strange to catagorize...*grin*....notes and topics are included.

As I type this, I'm listening to "The Folk Show" from Manx Radio. It's a fine mix of music with a host who either knows what he's talking about or is very good at reading liner notes. Worth a listen.

http://www.manxradio.com/
choose Programmes on the left column, then Audio Vault. The Folk Show is listed in the Tuesday box.

Or try this:

Don't overlook Frank Hennessy's Celtic Heartbeat archived on Radio Wales - it's part of Wales' gift of music to the world - and look for more great music to come from Wales when Meinir Gwilym's first English cd comes out next month.

There's an excellent English traditional programme on 209 Radio from Cambridge, Sunday afternoons each month or so.   'Make it Folky' is the title - it can be reached here

There's also Radio Britfolk which covers a wide range of music including documentaries and lessons on different instruments.    There's so much there that I never get chance to listen to it all.    That one's here.

There's a campaign just starting with the intention of letting the BBC know that many people feel that the Beeb has a responsibility to play more of the music of our country's heritage, and that lots of people want to hear more of it.    Volunteers are being recruited.    There's more information here

I like the Acoustic Stage too. Last week they were kind enough to put three tracks from my first album on their playlist. You can also hear richard Thompson, the Carthys and just about anyone else who matters in the UK folk scene. I have been listening to hear some of the acts, who have emerged since I have been away. It sounds like I have missed an awful lot of good stuff.

FWIW, if you go to the BBC's "Listen again" stuff, you can select by category. If you select "Folk", you get a fair number from all the local stations.

Also consider buying RM Recorder (cost about £15), which'll let you capture streaming shows that you want to listen to. Sadly this leaves them in RM format rather than MP3, but there's a program called "RM to MP3 converter" which'll do the relevant biz (cost about another £15). And once they're in MP3 format, you can put songs you want on CDs (I use Audacity to do any audio messing, cost nil). I currently have a pretty good archive of Mike Harding and Paul Jones programmes from the last 6 months or so, from which I've got 2 CDs of favourite songs to listen to in the car and learn.

Graham.
