Subject: Obit: Eric Roche Dies From: s&r Date: 06 Sep 05 - 10:38 AM From Eric's Website: "Eric Roche: RiP Tragically, after suffering from cancer for more than a year, Eric Roche has now passed away. His cancer had developed to such an extent that it became untreatable. He died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday 6th September 2005 with his wife by his side. Those of you who were fortunate enough to see Eric in action at one of his shows &/or to meet him personally, you will undoubtedly have been touched by his incredibly dynamic & moving performances; a consummate artist & a deeply spiritual man, one of the most genuine & inspirational people you are ever likely to meet. A good friend once commented that in a crowded concert room, Eric had the ability to make you feel that he was talking & playing directly to you; as only the greatest artists can do. RiP Eric Roche. You will be very sadly missed by those whose lives you touched. Eric's family would like people to know how grateful they are for all the thoughts, words & prayers being directed towards them at this time - it really does mean so much to them." |

Subject: RE: Obit: Eric Roche Dies (6 Sept 2005) From: Big Al Whittle Date: 06 Sep 05 - 01:49 PM I only found the man and his music last year. Within seconds of seeing him perform, you knew he was a giant of the musician - probably the most original and divergent thinker the dreadnought type guitar has produced in a generation. Thousands of music lovers will feel shattered by this news - one can only surmise what his poor family must be going through. Our thoughts are with them at this time of pain and separation. Eric was a man who enriched us all with his wit and music. You sense the legend is only just starting. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Eric Roche Dies (6 Sept 2005) From: MoorleyMan Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:10 PM Oh sh**, another real loss to the scene. A superlative and highly original musician (even in this age of amazing guitarists), and a real nice guy to boot. My thoughts go to his family. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Eric Roche Dies (6 Sept 2005) From: eleanor c Date: 07 Sep 05 - 12:16 PM Such a tough piece of news to take... I'd been hanging on to the hope that he'd beat it off, he was such a positive thinker with everything to live for. When oh when will we sort out a cure for this set of diseases. I too feel heartbroken for his family - the only positive action I can take, is to spread his name far & wide, ( well even farther and wider) , alert anyone with a guitar to his website and CD's and DVD, (which is a real treat for them if they don't already know of Eric!) and get them to buy something. Everyone who hears his music is astonished and moved straight away. Will the planned benefit concerts in October go ahead? I hope so, as a memorial and as a support and tribute to the family. |
