Subject: Paddy's Lamentation/By the Hush From: Date: 06 Jan 99 - 10:06 AM I'm still desperately searching for the music to "Paddy's Lamentation" aka "By the Hush" - any help??? |
Subject: RE: Paddy's Lamentation From: Liam's Brother Date: 06 Jan 99 - 11:06 AM Hi! If you read music, take a look at Fowke, Edith. Traditional Singers and Songs from Ontario, Folklore Associates, Hatboro PA, 1965. If you don't, try to get the recording by Tom Brandon (http://www.folklegacy.com/generics/generic.htm - at the bottom of the page). I'm almost sure it's on there. Call 800-836-0901 and Caroline Paton will confirm. This is a classic recording of Irish-Canadian music. If it isn't on the tape and you are truly desperate, call me and I'll sing it for you over the phone. All the best, Dan |

Subject: RE: Paddy's Lamentation From: Sandy Paton Date: 06 Jan 99 - 11:34 PM Good people: "By the Hush" is on Ian Robb and Margaret Christl's recording titled The Barley Grain for Me (now available as a compact disc), but not on Tom Brandon's recording. There is a lot of other fine Canadian (English language) material on the Tom Brandon cassette which was produced from field tapes made by the late Edith Fowke. You can hear RealAudio samples from The Barley Grain for Me on (Okay, Joe: here I go on my first attempt) Folk-Legacy. Now I'll submit it and see what came out. Sandy, the cyberklutz. |
Subject: RE: Paddy's Lamentation From: Sandy Paton Date: 06 Jan 99 - 11:36 PM Well, by doggies, it worked! Sandy, HTML expert. |
Subject: RE: Paddy's Lamentation From: Big Mick Date: 07 Jan 99 - 12:09 AM It sure did, Sandy. And a great site. I roamed it for a while, and it looks like I will have to spend my allowance for the conceivable future here. All you 'Catters need to look at this one. Dan Milner's CD, a couple of Bro' Art's older ones, the Bok, Muir anthology, and Sandy and Caroline anthology look like the first ones for me. Take a peek, they have real audio clips and the whole bit. Note to Liam's Brother (Dan Milner for the rookies), the cuts were great. Canna wait to get this one. All the Best, Mick Lane |
Subject: RE: Paddy's Lamentation From: Laurel Date: 24 Jan 99 - 05:49 PM It's on the soundtrack to Long Journey Home. On there it is sung by Mary Black. Laurel |
Subject: RE: Paddy's Lamentation From: johnm (inactive) Date: 24 Jan 99 - 07:30 PM Alice Saw your reference to yous and you. Brought back memories. Kids from New Jersey use to us needle us kids from the Bronx for saying yous. Just yesterday heard a member of the Lughnasa band saying yous or something like it on a radio show in NY. |
