Thank you for the attribution to Mozart, as an "academic courtesy" (Lord surely knows there is D-mned little academic about the MudCat)
IT is OK ... even if it is another website.
Please post your sources, (http? Publisher, page, year etc.) And IF only MOZART - what Act Scene Line numbers (publisher)??
Keep up the postings
Sincerely, |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Sep 05 - 10:40 PM I enjoy the "Magic Flute" songs, too - but I see no reason why Chico didn't post all the "Magic Flute" songs in the same thread. I'll move them together later, but it's a damn hassle. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Songs from Mozart's 'Magic Flute' From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 18 Sep 05 - 02:14 PM For Gargoyle, the aria "Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen" is commonly cited as No. 20, Act II. The score and pertinent data are available here: http://opera.stanford.edu/iu/libretti/zauber.html. Die Zauberfloete Links to Acts 1 and 2 at bottom of page. Midi links also available at the Stanford website. In Act II, scroll down to 20. Arie and find an excellent midi by Bill King as well as the text. In the opera, the first four lines (Ein Mädchen---) are repeated after each verse. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Songs from Mozart's 'Magic Flute' From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Sep 05 - 05:15 PM Mozart didn't write the words - so the full "acandemic courtesy" should also credit Emanuel Schikaneder, who did. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Songs from Mozart's 'Magic Flute' From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 18 Sep 05 - 06:28 PM For full "academic couresy" perhaps we must credit both Emanuel Schikaneder and Carl Ludwig Gieseke, as is done at the Stanford opera website. This is a controversial point; some music historians (and Gieseke) state that Schikaneder compiled the libretto from material supplied by Gieseke. Albert Einstein said "Many critics find it so good that they deny its authorship to poor Schikaneder --- But if he (Gieseke) wrote any of it at all, it was at most Tamino's discourse with the Speaker, the diction of which is somewhat above Schikaneder's powers." (Gieseke acted in Shikaneder's production, but he was a mineralogist and chemist who became Royal Director of Mines in Denmark and later Professor of Mineralogy and Chemisry at the University of Dublin). http://raptusassociation.org/flutemuskrite.html. Magic Flute (I have two DVD's of the opera, notes in one from the Glyndebourne Festival credits Schickaneder, the other of the Metropolitan Opera production does not credit a librettist). |
