Yes its coming up again. The Tenth sing.

At the Crown Inn, Buntingford, Herts. Just off the A10. A weekend of singing (instruments welcome, along with stories and poems).

Real ale pub and a friendly atmosphere.

Hi Kevin
Sorry won't be able to make it, was hoping it was the weekend before.

My excuse is that we're on Portugal.
Good Luck - hope to make the 11th

Best Wishes Carol

Hi Martin

Camping situation is this. The scout hut is available Sat night for £45. Indoor camping last year or two was 2 or 3 people.
Spoke to John Grey, the organiser yesterday, and concensus was not to book it.

Then again, if a few people show an interest to indoor camp on this thread, this could maybe be arranged.

I might get there yet as we've had to come home early 'cos Chris isn't too well and having to cancel Portugal.

Is it a weekend or one day now?

There are always themes (at least there will be when Lanfranc and John have filtered the helpful suggestions received in response to Lanfranc's post above). And competitions (eg guess the number of animals mentioned in one session, number of types of animals, ditto, deaths, ditto, deaths of animals.......). And raffles! (with prizes).

Looking forward to 19 November.

Kitty

PS Carol, I'm sorry to hear about Chris. Best wishes to both of you.

The idea of a theme, is not necessarily to stick to it, but to come up with an outrageous link to the theme, in doing the song you were going to do anyway.

You got it right there Kevin and it makes things more 'interesting' - we carried the tradition on at Denaby and did the Guess the Bodies' thing again.
And the idea was really for the themes to be surprises!!!

For those coming by plane from Stansted, the 700 bus runs hourly from there, and stops just outside the pub.

Incidentally the bar at Stansted airport opens at 5 in the morning, so keep off the sauce till you get to the session.

John Grey and I have produced the preliminary program and hope to finalise it by this weekend.

There will be no indoor camping available this year - the Scouts have become greedy and the cost they asked was not a lot short of local B&B prices! A list of B&Bs and local attendees who can offer floorspace or whatever is being prepared. PM me for details.

One theme we have decided on is "Introducing Avril Betts...." in memory of Dave Bryant.

Full details in due course here and on my website.

Alan

Time for a limerick on the occasion. I'm sure more verse will down well on the thread.

The weekend will leave no regrets
With singing, as good as it gets
A wonderful rave
And remembering Dave
We'll be having the theme Avril Betts

First a bit of history. When Carol and Chris started the Winter Sings, she was working at Dixon Place as warden, and incorporated the "concert" as part of the weekend to entertain her clients. The tradition has lapsed for the last couple of years, but John Grey contacted them again this year and they said "Yes please!"

I've never participated in these concerts myself, but, as far as I can gather, the idea is that as many of the Winter Sing participants as are willing/able/prepared to do so will go around to Dixon Place to perform suitable material for about an hour on the Saturday afternoon, leaving the rest at the Crown to keep the sessions going.

Could be fun and might lighten a few folks' afternoons one way or another.

Alan

Just to clear up one aspect of the Winter Sing, there is no admission charge for the event. There will be raffles and other means to contribute to charity, and maybe even an opportunity to participate in the BBC "Children in Need" fundraising, but no "cover charge".

Any attendee who wishes to contribute a raffle prize in lieu of an admission charge will be welcome to do so, but it's far from compulsory.

Only seven days to wait!

Thanks! Now I'll have to put my thinking cap on, working out links for the songs I'll want to sing. Or even hunt aeround for songs to actually fit some of the themes.

Had a great Saturday and Sunday - what happened to the Friday evening, well we went to Whittlesford, in the ice and fog! Lots of new faces there also.
Sorry to miss you Keith - put it on your engagement diary for next year!!!

Well done - and thanks to John & Alan especially.
Apologies for our brief appearance .. having retired for tea we got involved in a small family issue (of the "whats up with Mother Now !" variety) :( -- anyway we got the tonsils well exercised .. hope to see some of you on 25th Feb at the Jolly Brewers in Stortford .. & it was good to see that Avril is thriving, although personally the choice of a cello to accompany the oggs-eye man was a little .. umm .. inventive. ...
