Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diddlediddle doodle doo nursery rhyme From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Oct 05 - 05:19 PM Hi, AJT - a good place to check for nursery rhymes is http://www.kididdles.com, but I don't see your song there. I do remember something like "doodle-dy-doo," though. If you're looking for books of nursery rhymes with tunes, the "Wee Sing" series is very good. If you want really comprehensive books of nursery rhymes, chech out the works of Iona and Peter Opie particularly the Oxford Nursery Rhyme Book and the Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes, and the Puffin Book of Nursery Rhymes. I don't know which of these are in print, but they're all available through www.bookfinder.com -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diddlediddle doodle doo nursery rhymes From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 11 Oct 05 - 06:19 PM I don't think it's a rhyme in its own right; just the cd title, presumably made from the two obvious titles run together. All the listed tracks are well-known standards, though I wouldn't really describe "If you're happy and you know it" as a nursery rhyme. As Joe says, the Opies are the standard authority, and they provide variants and real background/historical information (as opposed to the modern myths so often circulated as "fact" nowadays). If you prefer something less scholarly, then there are any number of books, ranging from the useful to the completely ridiculous. Perhaps other people will recommend some. |
