So Ken, still spreading terror everywhere & corrupting todays youth.

JennyDecker, nice web site & nice to see such a large group of X-teens with an interest in doing shanties. Us aged in the barrel folks love to hear the sound of the new blood curddling on. Hope to hear you & your crew sometime. I suspect some of you will make Mystic Sea Fest in June, I/we will keep a blind eye open for ya.

Ken, see you there too.

Barry

I will definitely try to be at Mystic, yes! I'm sure the Folk Brownies will be there too. How I'll get to Mystic is another matter... Hope to meet/hear you sometime.

Welcome to the madhouse. I'm only about twice your age (Nyah, nyah! Most of you are older than my mum!) and I've been a folkie from birth, although I felt the need to go underground during my teen years. There are some of the finest people on earth in this forum and most are extremely encouraging to newbies. I've gone from believing that I couldn't sing to singing my first song in front of people that I hadn't known for more than a couple of days. Lurk, post, learn and welcome again.

If you treat a cold it will last seven days. If you don't, it will last a week.

Welcome JENNY!! and if you ever feel like singing the Wild ROVER, damn' well SING it! A helluva lot of audiences love it to bits. You'll learn here that a fair benighted number are anti-all-kinds-of-things [mostly in a goodnatured way, let me say--] the main thing is--sing what you feel like singing, and get to know your audiences. Have a long and happy folk-life---as I have!

Sadly, I cannot take credit for the founding of ARRR!!!, Brown University's only acapirate group. But I am definitely a proud member and First Mate. Feel free to check out our site, or email me at firstmate@arrr.net if you have any questions.

I tried to convert my friends by taking them to Bellowhead. It worked on a few of them - I will try the pirate thing now. Thanks!

Welcome to mudcat

And, of course, welcome to the wonderful world of folk! ((Part of Show Biz - but that's a good thing) CF Other thread)

It's all brill, but don't stop at shantys (shanties?) there's so much. Not that I'm putting shanties (shantys?) down!

Is it New York State you're in, or New York City - I know it's obvious to Americans, but not me - Because I've found three bands doing instrumental stuff that is truly marvelous.

They all play Contra Dances, but music is music, and I don't mean to do down Contra Dances - I really can't dance, so that part doesn't get me!

Keep your eyes open for:

Wild Asparagus, Airdance and Nightingale.

All three are bands from that vague area that i can recommend from three thousand miles away!

There's so much out there to enjoy, go for it!

Cheers,

QTWF

PS Pirates of The Caribbean is a wonderful film (It's folky connections are merely a bonus!) Johnny Depp's portrayal of Keith Richard as Pirate is a work of genius!

Jenny!

You're the coolest! Actually, you're right on the whole hip-pirates thing; we had Pirate Day at my school. Yeah. so teach me about folk because all i can do is keep singing Turtledove.

Love,
your wife-y and your life-y

I cannot take full credit for the existance of that strange child. Ken Schatz is equally responsible for her general delightful strangeness. Give her six months, and she'll be a full folkie. She has potential.
