Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 27 Oct 05 - 02:36 PM It's just for fun Mack... if ya don't like or get it, don't do it... Intrusive? How? It's not like anyone is MAKING you take part.... Pointless? Who said everything needs to have a point??? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: MMario Date: 27 Oct 05 - 02:37 PM How can it be intrusive since you have to choose to sign up? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 27 Oct 05 - 07:47 PM I joined, but did not have a photo to hand. I later uploaded one, but although it shows in the photos section, it doesn't show on my PC in the map popup or the list at the right of the map. CH, if you are unable to 'fix it', you could just delete me and I'll try again. |

Not in the States unless you happen to live at the very spot (it appears to me that mine is in the direct center of our local zip code area). If you can find my house by using that map c'mon over and bring some decent beer would ya. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: CarolC Date: 27 Oct 05 - 11:44 PM Our pin is definitely not where we live. It's probably, as Chip2447 has said, in the center of our zip code area. LOL, number 6. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: GUEST Date: 28 Oct 05 - 12:13 AM I'm glad ya found it funny Carol :) .... you guys are from Alabama ?!?! sIx |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: CarolC Date: 28 Oct 05 - 12:24 AM We live in Alabama. JtS is from Newfoundland, and I started out in Rhode Island and then the Washington DC area (and then a bunch of other places). |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: number 6 Date: 28 Oct 05 - 12:27 AM Interesting .... Alabama is a long way from the rock for JtS ... but then again, not that far. I find some similarities between Southerners (U.S.) and Maritimers (Canadian). sIx |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: CarolC Date: 28 Oct 05 - 12:48 AM He particularly likes the lack of snow. And like you, he also finds similarities between the people back home and the people here in the US south. Politeness being foremost among them, and a 'salt of the earth' kind of thing. My grandfather was from Saint John, NB, number 6. I probably have a lot of relatives in your area. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:16 PM Maybe postcodes in the UK are more localised - when I enter mine into a internet map site the arrow points right where I live. Full post codes are specific to a small group of houses in the same street. No problem really - after all when we give our house address to anyone that takes them right to your front door, if they feel so inclined. But if people are worried about getting stalked or whatever, best leave out the end bit of the post code, so it's a bit less specific, at least if you are in the UK. Other than that this seems an excellent addition to the Mudcat (along with the Mudcat flickr group that InOBU has just set up.) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:26 PM " you could just delete me and I'll try again" Done FT... please do retry... good idea too btw, putting your URL in as your shout out! "not getting a pic" Whatever FC... that's your call... and your call alone... "doesn't want to admit me" I suspect user error... if you want to try to be more specific, I'd try to help you... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: MMario Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:28 PM so why when I zoom in does it put me in two locations - neither of which is correct? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:37 PM Postal/zip code confusion is my guess MMario... Zomed in, a lot of those streets are as yet unnamed... Is the location at least in the ball park at a medium zoom?? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:42 PM The map page doesn't seem to like Mozilla, but the pix look great. Kind of like taking our photos and locations on Mudcat and compiling them in an apparently easy to use format. Neat idea. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:47 PM "The map page doesn't seem to like Mozilla" Already noted above KL :-) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Rapparee Date: 28 Oct 05 - 02:51 PM Works okay with Firefox. Puts me up in the hills, west and north of where I really am. But it does give you an idea. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Les from Hull Date: 28 Oct 05 - 03:03 PM It's put me slightly to the left of Flamenco Ted, which is probably true politically, but not geographically. If the rest of the Hull crowd get in on this you won't see either of us anyway! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 05 - 04:32 PM Sorry, I'd only seen Netscape mentioned. Also, I meant Mozilla's Firefox. So, hmmmm...guess i need to check my settings, since it works for Rapaire.:-) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Bill D Date: 28 Oct 05 - 05:12 PM well, so far I can only get all the features by using IE..*grump*...I don't LIKE technology which follows only Microsoft standards. as to accuracy, they missed my exact location by less than a mile. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: TheBigPinkLad Date: 28 Oct 05 - 05:47 PM CarolC said We live in Alabama. Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Oct 05 - 06:01 PM "I'd only seen Netscape mentioned. Also, I meant Mozilla's Firefox" Mozilla/Firefox ARE Netscape... Only Moz/Fox have people coding apps for the open source Netscape isnt' so 'add-on' compatable "I don't LIKE technology which follows only Microsoft standards" Me neither... But it is the standard, like it or not... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Amos Date: 28 Oct 05 - 06:29 PM Congrats to not-so-plump, stately, Buck Mulligan for the most obscure reference (in English, anyway) in the map!! Introibo ad altare dei, pal!! LOL A |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 Oct 05 - 07:18 PM Seems to work just as well on Firefox as it does on IE. Maybe there are some features I haven't tried where that doesn't apply, but so far I've seen no difference. I note that the world map seems to have some problems in recognising, for example, that the two North Americas it displays are actually the same North America, since only one of them apparently has anybody living there... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: CarolC Date: 29 Oct 05 - 02:45 AM JtS and all of his family (and I would imagine the rest of the Newfoundlanders) refer to themselves as being a part of "Atlantic Canada", and they call themselves "Atlantic Canadians". I had that one pointed out to me fairly early on. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we want/need a Mudcat Frappr? From: Beer Date: 29 Oct 05 - 07:32 AM You are correct Carol. When the provinces of the East are mentioned the Atlantic Provinces include Newfoundland. Not so if refered to the Maritimes. They also refer to us as other things as you can well imagen. Can you tell the other catters who don't know, what we 4 provincial people are called?? Beer |

I'm not sure what you are specifically asking with this (since I already said "Atlantic Canadians"). JtS says he calls himself a Newfoundlander and a Canadian. |
