No 40 is actually called "Scarecrow". It's written by Maria Cunningham. Will your CD have printed notes of who sung what? If so, you should perhaps collect the names of authors of songs where known, as well as the singers - copyright may not be an issue, but acknowledgement perhaps is?

Andrew

You wrote that song, Mmario? How lovely! (I KNEW I was right- you've been around a few centuries. ha)

Thanks, Nancy. In some cases I was pretty sure I knew whose voice a singer's voice was and just didn't quite dare put it down. That was one of them. Thanks for validating it!

Crane Driver- wherever a singer noted the author I wrote that down. I'm perfectly willing to give credit. Keep in mind, though, that these CDs will never be played commercially. If- or when - someone uses them to learn them in order to perform a song on stage, I would expect that person to do his/her homework so credit can be given at that time.

# 8 in the Ballads Workshop was "Glenlogie" (also known as "Bonnie Jean o'Bethelnie")sung by me (Mary Smith) and it's traditional.

MMario that was a brilliant song and I loved the story that preceeded it. I thought the song was traditional! You performed it beautifully and I think in another threat you posted that you were nervous. Well, it didn't show! Well done!

#47 is called "Stole and Sold from Africa." It's an Abolitionist song, collected in Kentucky, I think from Addie Graham. I learned it from the singing of Ginny Hawker and Kay Justice.

There's a Mudcat thread here

As I said somewhere else, I think Charlie and Carly's song is called "Shto Mi E Milo." PM them though if this doesn't seem right.

I called a friend who sings it with a group and she says that if one don't use the accent mark one would write it as 'shto' but when I googled it all the links came up with 'sto mi e milo'. Thanks, Ferrara.

Shto mi e milo is the best transliteration, unless you've got s with a hacek available in your alphabet character set. It's Bulgarian..

The Georgian Hymn above (#28) can be transliterated as "Shen Khar Venakhi" (You are a vineyand newly blossomed out), and it is traditional Georgian in the Kakheti-Kartli chant style. (I also sing another setting of Shen Khar Venakhi in Gurian chant style, which is a wonderful setting but not something you can teach beginners in any hurry.)

Maryrrf - Thank You! I blush.

yes - I tend to get the shakes terribly after a performance ... post-reaction rather then pre-reaction.

I see Rita and Charlie have dealt with the Bulgarian spelling, which is a good thing, as I have all I can do to sing those words, much less spell them correctly!
The ballad I sang in the ballad workshop is generally known as "The Death of Queen Jane."

I did Bonnie Susie Cleland at the Oral Traditions workshop. I think I did something at the Ballads workshop, but I can't remember now.

I call my spider song (#39 on Sunday night) "Camp Ramblewood". Hope it's portable! How nice to see this all laid out.
