Thanks in advance

Cheers

Try here The Nancy Sinatra UK Fan Page. Funny, I'd never associated the song with her.

Where are you at the moment, Betsy - one of those dead boring holes like Brazil or Azerbaijan? Or some exotic paradise like Billingham?

I amaze myself with the meaningful way I spend my lunch break!!
Look forward to hearing it at Greatham on Boxing Day!!

Save the Last Dance for Me

You can dance-every dance with the guy
Who gives you the eye,let him hold you tight
You can smile-every smile for the man
Who held your hand neath the pale moon light
But don't forget who's takin' you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin' save the last dance for me

Oh I know that the musics fine
Like sparklin' wine,go and have your fun
Laugh and sing, but while we're apart
Don't give your heart to anyone
And don't forget who's takin' you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin' save the last dance for me

Baby don't you know I love you so
Can't you feel it when we touch
I will never never let you go
I love you oh so much

You can dance, go and carry on
Till the night is gone
And it's time to go
If he asks if you're all alone
Can he walk you home, you must tell him no
'Cause don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
Save the last dance for me

Oh I know that the musics fine
Like sparklin' wine, go and have your fun
Laugh and sing, but while we're apart
Don't give your heart to anyone
And don't forget who's takin' you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin' save the last dance for me

So don't forget who's taking you home
Or in whose arms you're gonna be
So darling, save the last dance for me
Ooooh
Baby won't you save the last dance for me.
You make the promise that you save the last dance for me.
Save the last dance
The very last dance
For me!

For the record: "Save the Last Dance for Me" - words and music, 1960, by Jerome "Doc" Pomus and Mort Shuman. Popularized by a 1961 recording by The Drifters.

Thanks Snuffy and Steve .
I'm back in semi-tropical Teesside in between appointments-as they say !!
Was very ill in Azerbaijan a couple a months ago and though I'm 99 %OK now, thought it best to "drop back" and regroup.
Nice to hear from you both . Right, let me get printing..............

Cheers , Betsy.

When sung by a woman in the right environment, Save the Last Dance for Me becomes a kind of campy lesbian favorite. Please, no comments about singing it tongue-in-cheek, so to speak!

Just to be pedantic is it

"I will never never let you go"

I always heard it as

"I will never ever let you go"

But then again I have been known to be wrong occasionaly

(Ducking and running for cover)

and then again I've been known to spell occassionally correctly too

Subject: Lyr Add: GARDE LA DERNIÈRE DANSE POUR MOI
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 10 Nov 05 - 10:50 PM

The songwriters were Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman.

And here's a French version from www.paroles.net :

Dalida
GARDE LA DERNIÈRE DANSE POUR MOI

Paroles et Musique: D. Pomus, Mort Shuman, A. Salvet, F. Llenas, 1961
© Polygram ~ Barclay ~ Orlando Production

You all know the story behind this song right?

Doc Pomus was at his wedding reception watching his lovely new Bride dancing with everyone but him. He couldn't dance with her because he had had polio as a child and walked on crutches with braces. He penned the lyrics to this song on a napkin while watching her and his family still has that napkin. He was saying to his new wife "Have a great time dear, but it will be me that takes you home' with all the implied sexuality you'd expect from a groom on his wedding night.

lovely true story. I saw his daughter explain it on a PBS special about The Brill Building years.

Hiya All,

Dave'sWife has yet again astounded me with the depth of background knowledge to be found by asking Mudcat .Thank you all very much - the song as a simple drawing has now become a fully coloured painting.

Cheers ,Betsy.
