Subject: Need abc file of guitar solo pls From: GUEST,Pavane Date: 09 Nov 05 - 07:01 AM I have implemented basic Guitar Tablature (i.e. standard tuning only, so far) in the next version of my software package HARMONY, and need some files to test it. I am looking for any sample abc format files containing Guitar solos, in two or more parts, for this purpose. Can anyone help? Also, I think the tablature would need several options: 1. Tablature for accompaniment only, for songs (i.e. omit melody voice) 2. Tablature for melody (or other selected voice) only, for tunes 3. Tablature for both together, for solos Is this OK? |

Subject: RE: Need abc file of guitar solo pls From: Nick Date: 09 Nov 05 - 08:17 AM There are a load of Guitar solos etc in abc format at Sheet Music archive hopefully there may be something suitable. I always thought abc files just played single lines rather than tab-like things so one lives and learns |

Subject: RE: Need abc file of guitar solo pls From: GUEST,Pavane at work Date: 11 Nov 05 - 08:31 AM Thanks Mooh. (Looks like someone has already used my name there!) It does not seem practicable to look at every tune listed to see if it has an abc with multi-part guitar tab - I did try a few. So I still don't have one to use for testing my program - if I make one myself it doesn't prove much! One reason I wanted to check was that Guitar music is usually written an octave higher than it sounds, so that it can use the Treble Clef. My program will automatically adjust the Tablature to the correct octave if it knows that you are using a guitar - is this the way that people expect abc files to work as well? I presume that for other stringed instruments, e.g. mandolin, this adjustment is not necesary? |
Subject: RE: Need abc file of guitar solo pls From: prmartinuk Date: 11 Nov 05 - 09:32 AM For a standard mandolin it isn't necesary, but with some of the mandolin/mandola family it can be required to change the octave. If you could keep us informed of developments. After a summer of converting/typing out all of our band's music into ABC format (sorry there's no good guitar solos) I've grown quite fond of ABC. |
Subject: RE: Need abc file of guitar solo pls From: pavane Date: 11 Nov 05 - 07:43 PM So far, my program HARMONY has been enhanced to : Display guitar or mandolin tab for standard tunings only. It will display multiple voices. Allow the user to override automatic assignment of notes to strings by entering a specific string for a note. Save and restore the tune including any overrides specified. Is that enough to start with? I plan later to include more instruments (Which ones first?) and to allow custom tunings. This is easy enough to do, but complicates the saving of tunes. |
Subject: RE: Need abc file of guitar solo pls From: pavane Date: 13 Nov 05 - 04:20 PM As I couldn't find one, I created one myself, but I do need to know if it is valid. Please look at the Kemps Jig thread. |
