Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: GUEST,Jon Date: 09 Nov 05 - 08:22 PM That question was asked on help about a month back here to no "real" answer/solution. FWIW, I did try downloading it and as with that report, the file size was too small (2.5 mb) and although I know nothing about macs, my stuffit/unstuf type attempt (on Linux) did not reval anything I thought was an app. If it's of any use, I think I have a plain text verion still here in a zip file. Together with some scripts that go some way to making something like this. I'm sorry I'm so vague - I really can't rember (except the text file should be there - it was a play when I wanted to take a break for a day from a longer ongoing job with something else - something I may resume but not for a while. Feel free to download, modify, adapt, etc. if it's of any use. (as long as it's in Dick Greenhaus' spirt/condition of sharing, not commercial, etc.) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Nov 05 - 08:33 PM I wish I could help you, Fullerton. I know there's a problem with the OSX version, but the guy who programmed it hasn't been available, and the rest of us don't know OSX. If anybody is able to do OSX programming, feel free to devise something for us. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: Amos Date: 09 Nov 05 - 08:33 PM The download works okay for me. Tunes (folder) Song Index file Song DB file Help (Folder) DigiTrad (Classic browser) Digital Tradition Help (text) Did you read me? (text) The Digital Tradition (OS X) Ver. 3.1 which is the DB browser. are the contents of the folder. If you didn't get all these, ask Jeff if he can put them up on an FTP site for you, or perhaps email you a zip or .sit file of them. The read me file states: "Welcome to The Digital Tradition, Macintosh style! System requirements: 20M free disk space (if installed on a local disk) 8M memory (minimum) A PowerPC (Power Macintosh) or newer System 7.0 or higher Quicktime 2.0 or higher (if you want to play the tunes) This is version 3.1, with a number of new features. You can learn all about it by reading the online help found under the Help menu. You can also read the help by opening the "Digital Tradition Help" file with a web browser. Before you begin, you may want to install the DigiTrad font in this folder for better music display and printing. Your feedback about this new version is very important. Please let me know what you like or don't like, what works, etc. You can write me at mheiman@loomis-house.com. Thanks for being part of the Digital Tradition!" Hope this helps. A |
Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: dick greenhaus Date: 09 Nov 05 - 09:09 PM If anyone's desperate, I'll supply DigiTrad on a CD-ROM that (I'm told) works on OSX. Five bucks covers the postage, CD and packaging., with a bit left over for purchasing printer ink. dick greenhaus 145 Hickory Corner Road East Windsor, NJ 08520 |
Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: GUEST,Jon Date: 10 Nov 05 - 01:24 PM OT but for Joe Offer... I have taken a few hours off today and had another play, extending the function of the categories. It is here. There is one bug I know of (and could be many more - it's not been tested much). Sometimes Categories using "AND" produces results it shouldn't. On the examples I have found, this is because the way I've worked it relies on the count of category terms entered and some records in the dtdatabase (carried over to mine and yet to be weeded out) contain the same category entry more than once, eg. Don't Sell Him Any More Rum contains "Drink" twice. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: Andrez Date: 11 Nov 05 - 05:44 AM I have the Mac OSX 3.1 beta version. Seems to work fine under Tiger on a 17" G4 Powerbook. I have been running under Mac OSX 10.3 and also on an iMac running version 10.2. Could guest Fullerton be more specific about which version of Mac OSX is being used and on which Mac? BTW the stuffit archive is 7 Mb. Cheers, Andrez |

Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: GUEST,Jon Date: 11 Nov 05 - 07:15 AM Well as quite a few people did spend some time flicking through my messing with the dt yesterday (server logs tell me that although I don't know who), I'll post here. I couldn't resist and decided to try to add something else Joe Offer had once mentioned. I've tried to add another search type which I have called "natural". It is a MySQL "natural language" "FULLTEXT" search. What it does is try to list what it thinks are the most relevant results in order of relevance. I've limited it to the top 25. What it will do for example is: "many year rover wild beer" would suggest "Wild Rover" as expected but in this case also suggests "Irish Rover" amongst others. A misspelling like: "many year rober wild beer" Still manages to suggest "Wild Rover". Categories/keywords are ignored on this one at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Digitrad for mac OSX problem From: GUEST,Jon Date: 11 Nov 05 - 08:00 AM Well. Glad it's working for some. As I said before, I know nothing about a Mac but I still can't figure that OSX download out. I think I was wrong about the app and maybe it is data missing but what is really puzzling me is the size of the download which has again come out to me as 2.5Mb. The dt info says it should be 7.02Mb which is roughly the same as the other distros. Just compressing the text export from asksam into a zip gives me 5.3Mb. If that download I just took is right, I'd really love to know what compression system the Mac OS X version uses! |
