hi,

the day job is sending me to Cardiff for the week starting Monday, I have done a google and found a couple of open mike sessions on a Wednesday (the wharf & the toucan club), anybody know of what these are like or if there is anyting else within easy reach of Cardiff?

Monday night is usually the Welsh session at the Mochyn Du in Sophia Gardens, just off the 'bottom' of Cathedral Road. You can also ask Nigel Parsons for recommendations. We took Sorcha and Leadfingers to a session just off Cowbridge road, but I can't remember the night or the name of the pub. The Corporation?

I found a wonderful club, just outside Cardiff, got a very warm welcome from Pat and Splot Man, the quality of the residents was very good.

In case anyone calls up this thread looking for somewhere in Cardiff you can do a lot worse that this, web site here

Only just spotted the thread Chris.

That would have been you from Essex in the Windsor (Llantrisant folk club) Wednesday night then.

Tuesdays there's a club in Barry, at the Castle Hotel.
Thursday's a bit further in the Lyceum pub in Newport (off junction 26 of the M4)

The session Siân mentioned above was not in The Corporation, but in The Canton (Llandaff Road)

You said you expect to be down again, so we'll look forward to it.

LLantrisant is one of the best. Had a few visits myself when I ran the LLandeilo Folk Club, it was a long run for me but well worth it.

The Mochyn Du Monday session is now in the Cayo about 50 yards away; we've been there for 5-6 years now.
