Christies Auction gives descriptions of items that were for sale:

Rock and Pop Memorabilia, Sale 1589
November 21, 2005, New York, Rockefeller Plaza

There were 193 separate lots in the auction, of which Dylan's poems were lot 21. Additional Dylan items at lots 21 thru 33.

You could have had Ella Fitzgerald's hot pink gown at lot 34 or so.

Lots of Beatles stuff, and some Presley. Sparse items with low end estimates to about $300, with high ends topped out at around $6,000 for everything except the Dylan poems and a Dylan 60 minute (approx) reel to reel tape ca. 1961.

A quick browse might be interesting for those who have oldish stuff they might not realize is "valuable." (????)

I'm not sure why this link wasn't at the top of the Google results when I searched earlier. No results of this sale on the web yet, that I've seen.

John

The auction should be done by now, but I don't see any reports on who bought what and how much things actually went for.

Auction appears to be the same note announcing the auction that was in my local newsrag. I'd have linked sooner but my locals probably don't have even that posted yet.

Art Auction houses are notorious for exaggerating the value of stuff their selling; but on the other had lots of times they get really surprised to find they're selling something that's actually in demand. Fifty percent less than their estimates - or 3x what they think, are about the usual ranges.

PDQ

I left the U. of Illinois campus before joining. Lived at the Sammy house that one year. Bought a Stella -- my first guitar--from Joel Kanter while there for ten dollars. Made the grades but never went back downstate. Did continue at U. of I. -- Navy Pier in Chicago. Stayed addicted to folk music --- and that's all she wrote. I suspect I'm a grad of the University Of The Open Road.

I'd like to know who buys the collection of poems and for what price. If anyone finds out, please post about it.

Art Thieme...did you pledge or actually join the Sammies? Mr. Z. either quit or got the boot, but he is not a member.

Bob Dylan's untitled poems selling for $60,000 to $80,000? Is that what happens to old counterculture hippies? I don't suppose he'll donate the money to an antiwar group or a group that funds young poets. Miscellaneous Beatles items as a small part of the jackpot? That's arguably like the tail wagging the dog.

Mr. Zimmerman went to U. of Minnesota. I went to U. of Illinois. We both were Sammy pledges that fall of 1959. And the rest is history... ;-)
