Subject: Llantrisant FC goes peripatetic (Mari Lwyd)
From: Splott Man
Date: 28 Nov 05 - 04:28 AM

On Wednesday 7th December the Folk Club will not be meeting at the Windsor Hotel Pontyclun.

"Llantrisant Folk Club takes the Mari Lwyd back home for the evening";-

Just for the one night we are meeting at 8.30pm (our usual time) at the Wheatsheaf in Llantrisant old town where Gwyn the landlord is welcoming us with open arms.
We will start the evening with a singaround and then take our Mari Lwyd out on the town! Please be prompt, this is a special occasion. We are still celebrating our 25th Birthday!!!
We will be at the New Inn at 9.15
Working Mens Club at 9.30
The Bear at 9.45 (this will give people a chance to get a drink in)
The Cross Keys at 10.15
Back to the Wheatsheaf for 10.30 and finish our singaround.
All times are approx. because you know what it`s like trying to get a Mari Lwyd tour to move on.............
Everyone is welcome, costume not necessary just for this once. Just bring your voices and instruments, we will provide the words and we will celebrate our pagan heritage and culture. (from Pat Smith)

also....................
Sun 18th December. The Mari Lwyd goes out on tour.

Meet at the Castell Mynach, Mwndy at 12.30 (outside because we have to make an entrance)
The Dynevor at Groes Faen 1pm (yes there`s time to get a drink in here)
The Barn, Mwyndy 1.45 (and here)
The Penny Farthing, Southgate 2.15 (and here if you`re quick)
The Cross Inn pub, Cross Inn 3pm (and of course, here)

Leave for Gower Folk Club at 6.30 to gatecrash their Christmas Party (actually they do know we are coming...) That`s the Greyound in Llanrhidian.

For this tour we are in costume. Anything will do really, if you`ve got a Welsh costume wear that. If not, something like waistcoats, dai caps, skirts and shawls (not altogether). Just so you look different from Joe Bloggs...

We need musicians and singers (even if you can`t sing we will find a job for you) Words are provided.
And of course SOMEONE TO GO UNDER THE MARI (PJ are you available?)
More info on www.folkwales.org/ and follow the links.

Ta everso

Splott Man

We'll be thinking of you. Wish we could be there, perhaps the mari could do a minor detour to Cornwall?

Is that the hole with the mint in it, or the other one?

Indeed it is Giok. The other one is LlantrisEnt near Usk.

She's not coming to Cornwall, Cats, but she is going to Crediton Festival in March.

I'll be in Cornwall after Christmas, any chance of spotting the Pen Gwyn?

Hows about a Hooden/Mari Lwyd swop meet. You buggers come to Kent, us buggers go to Welsh Wales?
(why is the toll on the English side????)

(I only peaked at this thread to find out what peripatetic meant, still none the wiser)

A swap eh?

Hmmm!

She's going to Banbury Hobby horse fest in July, is yours?

It doesn't matter where the toll is, the French get the money!

Peripatetic - moves around a lot.

She thought we were being crude, calling her "Mouth Organ".

But then it was explained, "that's our Monica!"

Well, it was a good tour. We did 4 pubs, the Workies' and a restaurant, all within 200yds - that's Llantrisant for you. Great reception throughout - even the bloke who put a pound in the pot without lifting his eyes from his newspaper.
Finished back at the Wheatsheaf for a chat and a sing.

The next tour is on Sun 18th December.
Meet at the Castell Mynach, Mwndy at 12.30 - first pub from J34 of the M4 (outside because we have to make an entrance)

Leave for Gower Folk Club at 6.30 to gatecrash their Christmas Party (actually the organisers do know we are coming...) That`s the Greyound in Llanrhidian.

The Sunday afternoon tour was a resounding success. Well received everywhere. Finishing at Pat Spoons gaff for some nosh. So far we've raised around £290 for Holme Towers Hospice.
The visit to the Gower was a success too, with more of our members there than were at the Folk Club the previous Wednesday!
We were regailed with carols by Baggyrinkle in full Victorian gear, then a rapper dance, and a Mummer's play from the Swansea valley. The evening ended with a ceilidh with 5 Bar Gate providing the music, ably called by Keith Lascelles.

The next tour is on New Year's Eve in the Aberdare area. We're trying to link it with the Nos Galan races, but if there's no official link, the Lords of Misrule will prevail.

Oh what fun we do have!

Happy Christmas!

Splott Man

Hey, I never expected to see 5 Bar Gate mentioned here again - that was originally MY band and I named it.

Glad to see Keith is still using the name (I think).

I am just imagining the sound of Pat Spoons saying the words "Peri-pa-tetick" I can almost hear the sounds...
Quack!
Geoff.
